First Visit

The Champion will first meet Atani when entering her tent at the Marefolk Village. Upon entering the tent, they note the majority of the space is dominated by thick cozy furs before being struck by the enticing scene of a mare in heat. They see a woman, whom they presume to be the chieftain propped up against a series of thick pillows with a book in her hands. She will blink in surprise at her new guest, and she sets down the book on her lap and hugs her chest for a moment before taking a deep, steadying breath. She stands and greets the Champion, introducing herself as Chieftain Atani, the Champion noting her weak and tired voice. She appraises them for a moment before she asks for their name. Once she has their name, she will then reveal that she is not the original chieftain of the village, it was her mother, however, she was stolen away by corrupted centaurs. She will shiver uncomfortably before she asks them to bring back her mother. The Champion is left with the following options:

Of Course - As if you could leave this poor daughter to her fate.
Refuse - There are plenty of dangers in the world; you can’t handle this one too.

Accepting to help Atani will bear witness to relief visibly flooding her after hearing their words. She begins to sniffle and asks that they come back in a little while as she has to pull herself together and she doesn't want to let her guards hear her cry. This sets Atani's relationship score to 15.

Refusing to help Atani will result in her bursting into tears. Before the Champion can respond, one of her guards grips them hard on the shoulder and hauls them from the tent. She will then proceed to kick the Champion out of the village, while the other guard attempts to soothe the crying chieftain. This sets Atani's relationship score to 0.

Meeting Atani for the first time will also unlock the marefolk codex entry if it wasn't already unlocked.

Note that this does not block the Champion from entering the village or seeing the chieftain, however, until they accept her request to save her mother, every time they visit her, they will be asked if they had a change of heart. They will be kicked out again if they didn't, and increase Corruption by 1 to a max of 60.

Subsequent Visits

Once introductions are out of the way and the Champion has pledged to help Atani, the following options will become available:

Atani's options are configured such that they cannot be chosen in direct repetition, requiring another option before becoming available again.

Centaurs

While the Champion hasn't completed Harboring a Fugitive, when asked about the centaurs, Atani explains in a darkened expression that the centaurs and marefolk had good reason to get along, considering the tribes share a lot in common and more so, although she does not hate them despite what they've done. The centaurs have always been strong and they're quite potent with their pheromones, their corruption only enhancing those effects. The marefolk can fight the centaurs, however, only their most resilient warrior can last long against their scent. She comments after awkwardly clearing her throat that even if it's just because the marefolk like to be 'on top' in the end. The Champion will ask if that's why she keeps her two futa marefolk guards around, to which a deeply embarrassed Atani explains that they're her friends and the strongest, although if she could spare them to help fight the centaurs she would, but their honor-bound to remain. She quickly shifts the topic back to the centaurs as she says she hasn't had the chance to spend time with centaurs outside of briefly meeting the centaur chieftain's daughter a few years ago.

If the Champion has completed Harboring a Fugitive, Atani will reply that the centaurs have been keeping mostly to themselves and it will take a while to mend the rift between them. She adds that she misses seeing groups of visiting centaur traders and their great big cook-out which she experienced when she was a kid, and she hopes that one day they can have it again.

Help Princess

With the mention of the centaur chieftain's daughter, the Champion explains Ahmri's situation and they ask if Atani could give Ahmri shelter while they stop the centaur mess from spreading. This earns them a conflicted stare from Atani and although she's not sure she can trust a centaur, Ahmri may enter the village but she must be brought to Atani first as she will get some hateful glances if the other marefolk don't know who she is. The Champion leaves to pick up Ahmri and two make their way to Atani without incident. They don't get as many cold stares as Atani seemed to expect, even Edessari and Wredi have no real contempt in their eyes but Ahmri is less comfortable from the myriad of curious glances. Upon entering Atani's tent, they can see that she's pacing near her cushioned seat as she does her best to look stern. Ahmri will nervously introduce herself, that they might have met once when her dad invited them to the harvest feast and she just said hi and went to her room. She apologizes for that as she was reading a good book and didn't want to put it down. Atani visibly struggles to retain her taciturn bearing after listening to Ahmri stumble on her words. She cracks as she asks Ahmri to stop, that how can she be suspicious of Ahmri when she's no older than herself, and that she's obviously not corrupt but she was expecting some kind of slutty conniving monster. Ahmri with her beat red face and awkward nerves spots a small stack of books to one side of the throne of cushions. She asks if Atani reads too, and if she's heard of The Tales of Baron Wellguard as she loves the story about a dragon and a princess being in love, as she trots over to the half open chest of books. A convinced Atani accepts to take Ahmri in and promises her that the Champion will save her mother and get Ahmri's dad back to normal as she pulls Ahmri into a full hug.

Her Mother

While Naiyana hasn't been save yet, on the topic of her, Atani visibly wilts as she explains that her mother is a beautiful, strong and proud woman who was everyone's mother, and that each day with her in the hands of the corrupted centaurs is like a stabbing pain for Atani. She misses her mother dearly and regrets that she never got a chance to tell her she loves her. Her mother is usually called mom or mother by everyone, but with her title, she is Chieftain Asani. Atani acknowledges that they share similar names, but she prefers to be called Atani. Atani explains it casually but they can note a faint blush on the chieftain's face as they surmise that Atani is aware of what helping her mother out entails. She continues by stating that they have tea, talk about stories and hug as they've always been close and they could easily spend hours cuddling the room, once her mother has been recently seen to and has had the chance to wash up. If the Champion and Atani have children, she adds that her mother loves being around kids and it makes her younger every time she sees them.

Herself

If it's the first time the Champion asks Atani about herself, she glances around nervously as admits that for the woman who's supposed to be in charge, she's terribly uninteresting. However she concedes from the Champion's level stare as she explains that she was born in the heart of summer, became of age two years ago, her mother was chieftain, and unfortunately her father who was also a mother had passed away, and it was quite a rare occurrence or was back in the day. She has never had a partner and was supposed to be married to the centaurs, however, that was 'cancelled'. She's now the acting chieftain, loves sugary fruits, and curling up in furs and napping. She's known her guards Edessari and Wredi ever since she was a tiny thing. She takes a deep breath and apologizes that she's not good with small talk, so she tries and does it all at once. It's the Champion's turn to talk as they regale her with their own tales and history, and by the time they're out of topics, Atani is practically beaming. The Champion will thank her for the great conversation and promises to do their best to keep her company in the future, to which Atani says she'd love the company whenever they're available.

If the Champion has asked before, the conversation will depend if the Champion has had sex with her or not. She practically eats up the tales of the Champion's recent (mis)adventures. There's very little she can describe about her daily activities but they ask her if she's going alright. Once the Champion is ready, Ahmri, Atani, and her two guards formulate a plan using a map and clay figures on how to fight the centaur. Ahmri chips in that the marefolk don't have to fight the centaurs, they simply need to distract them long enough for the Champion to get into the village and deal with the source of the corruption. One the guards boasts that their hunters and foragers have eluded the centaurs for centuries, one venture won't be difficult. The Champion asks her guards if they're going to be protecting Atani and Ahmri while they go to the village. Ahmri interjects by stating that they're not leaving her behind as she's the only one who knows the paths that lead to the village rather than sheer falls and steep cliffs. She reassures the Champion that she's been learning from Kavi on a little bit about magic and that she can make her symbol of Lumia glow real bright. Once everyone is in agreement, the Champion and Ahmri depart to the centaur village.

Once the quest has been cleared (regardless of the outcome), the Champion escorts the ex-chieftain Naiyana back to the marefolk village. Once they reach the village, Atani rushes towards her mother with an expression of pure, child-like delight. Confession

Once the Champion has reached >= 80 relationship score, cuddled and has had sex with her at least once, and has rescued her mother by completing Harboring a Fugitive, Atani will confess her feelings towards the Champion.

Upon visiting Atani, the Champion notes that they can feel something special in the air and they see that she seems quite nervous. This nervousness changes as soon as she sees the Champion and her whole expression brightens. The Champion comments that she seems distracted and asks if she's alright. She says she has something important to tell them but first she asks for a hug, to which the Champion gives. After the hug, she shuffles awkwardly and takes a deep breath before telling them she loves them. The Champion will blink in surprise and say they already knew. Her blush deepens and she hugs her body as she states:

"N-no... not like that. I mean I really love you, (name). You were my first, and maybe that’s just me being naive again... but when I look at you I can feel my stomach flip over, and I get giddy and my heart pounds so hard I think I might not even be able to bare it." She whirls around hurriedly when she sees them, and with her blue moist eyes, she says that she's really milky today. The realization quickly hits the Champion as Atani confirms that she is indeed pregnant. The pair settle down as Atani asks if the Champion is really okay with her being pregnant, considering they're a big adventurer after all. The Champion reassures her that it's not something to worry about and that they're excited to met their child. They sit and cuddle for a little while before eventually returning to their duties, but before the Champion leaves, she pulls them into another kiss and tells them to come back soon, considering she's getting so worked up now. This earns her a blink of surprise from Edessari and Wredi as they give a nervous whine when the Champion departs.

Meet the Baby

After Atani gives birth, the next time the Champion enters the village will initiate this scene. There is no time limit for this and is not a one time scene.

Upon visiting Atani; Edessari and Wredi rush over to the Champion and give them a group horsey hug. After their sudden outpouring affection, the Champion asks what's going on, to which the pair decide to tug them along to Atani's tent. The pair's cause for excitement is apparent as the Champion finds Atani sitting and clutching a baby in her arms where it's firmly latched onto a milky tit. Her motherly smile turns into a bright and cheerful once as she sees the Champion. As the Champion settles down beside Atani, she says that their child is a girl, in body at least, as chieftains are predisposed to 'biiig' girls too. Atani will then plant a soft kiss on the Champion's cheek as she snuggles up to them and closes her eyes. She says she's going to catch a few winks as she falls as sleep, cuddling up to the Champion. Should the Champion have any companions with them, they'll give the couple some privacy as they indulge in the attention of the two towering mareguards outside.

After a certain amount of time, the Champion takes their leave, but not before hugging their hefty daughter. Upon leaving, Edessari gives the Champion a kiss on the cheek and insists that they come back soon.
