Quest States

State Acquisition Description
0 After Arona mentions fighting ghosts Arona's approached you about wanting some way to deal with spectral foes. Maybe you should talk to Viviane about an enchantment of some sort that'll help.
1 After talking to Viviane about Arona Viv's willing to make something for Arona, but at a price: something at the center of the forest has been agitating the wolves. She wants you to deal with it and bring back its body for her to use to enchant whatever it is she's making.
2 After defeating the Dire Wolf Spirit You've successfully defeated the dire wolf spirit that's been haunting the den and acquired its body. Now you just have to bring it back to Viviane.
3 (complete) After returning to Viviane The witch put the materials to good use, crafting an axe and cloak for your orcish companion to wield against spectral foes.

Acquisition

To trigger the conversation that begins this quest, you need to have had Arona in your party for a ghost encounter — Shades of the Past, Specter of the Wyld, the Spectral Smith encounter in the Glacial Rift, or the Minotaur Ghosts in the Tiran Temple. Before too long, Arona will interrupt your sleep to insist you find a way for her to fight ghosts.

Progress

You continue the quest by visiting Viviane with Arona in your party and choose Arona. Viviane marks a spot in the Old Forest, and if you wait at the spot you will encounter a Dire Wolf Spirit that you need to defeat. Losing causes a Bad End.

After slaying the spirit, you return to Viviane to collect Arona's upgrade.

Reward

"This," Viviane says, "is Nightfang. Every good magic weapon deserves a name. Take it."

You unlock Arona's Spirit Totem set and make your alpha/beta happy. Also, Viviane has a really funny bit of dialogue which you'll just be happy you read.
