Description
The Scarlet Federation is the governing body of the Red Myr on Myrellion. The Federation is ruled by a junta of generals, collectively known as the High Command, and is heavily militarized compared to their Gold Myr neighbors. Full citizenship -- and the right to vote -- are gated behind Federal service (usually, but not always, military), and many large industries are government-backed private ventures run by citizens.
History
The Scarlet Federation was formed from several disparate city-states of red myr who lived far to the north-east of the gold myr heartlands, and on another continent. Near their territory were several of the largest cities of nyrea, as well as over "monsters" from the barren wastelands of the far north. The Federation was formed during a series of unification wars, which eventually saw most of the red myr cities (and a handful of nyrean ones) collected under one banner. The Federation was formed in the same generation as the Red-Gold war, and several veterans from the unification conflicts fought in the world war that followed.
Even before the Federation's formation, however, tensions were high between the red myr cities and the larger Gilden Republic to the west. Several border skirmishes were fought between the two races, and hostility was steadily on the rise until the start of the Red-Gold conflict. The war began with a dogfight between red and gold air forces, and has since escalated to total world war, with the Scarlet Federation having pushed deep into Gilden Republic territory. The conflict was escalating towards the use of weapons of mass destruction before an ausar expedition arrived in Myrellion's airspace.
Of the two races, the Federation was the second to employ chemical weapons, but the first to develop nuclear ones.

Trivia
The Scarlet Federation is heavily based on the Terran Federation from Robert A. Heinlein's 1959 novel Starship Troopers, especially the duty to serve placed upon its citizens. Elements of its feature film equivalent, the United Citizen's Federation, can be seen in the Terran-Space Coalition, especially its military arm, the Coalition Expeditionary Force.
