Beneath that ridge are a pair of eyes that are slightly larger than human standard, but pulled tight. Somewhat unexpectedly, they do have eyelashes atop actual eyelids. The eyes, however, are black as pitch, the particular shade which makes it hard to identify their shape and depth. There’s nothing breaking up the distance between eyes and mouth. The distance isn’t quite as vast as it would normally be if there was a nose, which seems to be largely due to how big the eyes and mouth are. The mouth is thin, seemingly permanently compressed or pursed, but it is wide, and when Ara Kei speaks it splits open hugely, revealing a massive set of teeth and a long tongue.

Behind the pair of legs not facing you is the quadomme’s abdomen; at least as big as a gold myr’s, it is clad entirely in black, pliable latex-like chitin. Ara Kei can be found in the bothrioc embassy, opposite the red myr staff office. You can talk to the quadomme about their race and what they are up to - and your "progression along the path", if you've gotten bothrioc addiction one way or another.

Once Steele is significantly addicted Ara will demand that they find a master to look after them. They will accept submitting to [[Sera]], [[Gene]] or [[Xanthe]] as solutions to this. Submitting to [[Lane]], though, results in Ara temporarily breaking Steele's hypnosis to the daynar and demanding they find someone more suitable.

Ara Kei may ask Steele for help in uplifting the bothrioc to UGC citizenship. Steele must have exhausted all of Ara Kei's Talk options, and spoken to Charles about a Fix? before talking to Ara Kei once more to initiate.

Upon accepting Ara Kei's request, Steele must contact a scientist to create a counteragent to the bothrioc quadomme's phermones to allow them to peacefully meet. [[Byron McAllister|Dr. McAllister]] and [[Doctor Lash]] can be asked about Bothrioc? but will refuse to make the counteragent for Steele. When asked, [[Doctor Lessau]] will create it for free, and after a five day wait, provides the player with two items: a Bothrioc Pheromone Counteragent and a Bothrioc Fake Counteragent. [[Julian Haswell|Dr. Haswell]] requires only a three day wait, but produces only the pheromone counteragent and will charge 70,000 credits. Note that the first three quadommes can be encountered before Steele acquires the counteragent, but the final encounter requires it.

To continue with the quest, Steele must find 4 bothrioc quadommes in the Deep Caverns of [[Myrellion]]. If previously encountered, their locations will be marked on the map with webs. Upon encounter, Steele can choose Diplomacy instead of the standard options. When meeting the first three quadomme, Steele can either choose to submit to the quadomme and become pregnant with its eggs, or find an [[Nyrean Huntress|alternate incubator]] for the bothrioc. After choosing to attract another, Steele can Retreat in the next fight to bring their encounter back to the quadomme. If Steele has high enough Intelligence, they may be able to directly skip this process and have the quadomme agree to attend the summit.

The final quadomme, [[Fei An Strozo]], has a unique encounter directly in front of the U.G.C. Scout Authority site in the Deep Caverns. She requires that Steele bring an item that will allow her to grow genitals before agreeing to join Ara Kei's bothrioc summit. Depending on the item brought, Fei An Strozo can grow either a penis ([[Throbb]], [[ManUp]]) or a vagina ([[Pussyblossom Pill|Pussyblossom]], [[Pussybloom Pill|Pussybloom]]). Steele can also choose to submit to Fei An Strozo, but this will result in the game ending after the bothrioc summit has concluded with Steele remaining with Fei as her submissive for the rest of their life.

Once all four quadomme's have been successfully invited, Steele can return to Ara Kei and initiate the bothrioc summit. Regardless of the choice between real and fake counteragents, Steele will be rewarded with the Bothrioc Geneaology. If Steele decides to give Ara Kei the fake counteragent, the bothrioc summit will fail and the bothrioc embassy will be permanently closed. Alternatively, if Steel gives Ara Kei the real counteragent, the summit will succeed and the bothriocs will set up a government and apply to the UGC for citizenship as sapients. After waiting three(?) days, the Bothrioc Embassy will reopen and Ara Kei will reward Steele with the Widow's Kiss. The Bothrioc Geneaology can be given to Doctor Lessau, although Steele will not receive a reward. It can also be given to Dr. Haswell for a 50k reward. Thus the most profitable path is to get Lessau to make the counteragent, but sell the geneology to Haswell.

Quinn was the daughter of the chieftain of the Great Western Rift, and was given as a gift to the waterfall tribe's old leader to seal a truce. After he died Quinn defeated all other applicants to the throne, either through persuasion or personal combat.

Some time after the [[U.G.C.]] made landfall on Mhen'ga, [[Snugglé]] built a penitentiary plantation over the land Quinn's tribe used for farming. They were infuriated by this, but only began to take action after the fugitive RK Lah found his way to them. Mistaking the zil chieftain for an insectile matriarch Lah described her as 'Queen', a term she eagerly adopted. Believing the [[ausar]]'s words to hold real power, she allowed him to use her warriors to attack the plantation repeatedly, hoping to drive Snugglé away. This in turn caused [[Shep Darnock]] to hire [[Captain Steele]] in order to neutralise them and re-capture Lah.

Although entirely wedded to zil traditions, Quinn is a calm and honorable individual, and will carefully consider appropriately-presented arguments before acting. The only thing which seems to be seriously anger her is theft.

In order to activate the quest, Steele must have had a meal with [[Shep Darnock]] and exhausted all of his talk options. If this is the case, after the [[Stellar Tether|Tarkus Tether Crisis]] has been resolved they will receive an email from the professor less than a day later, requesting their help.

At Thare Plantation, Darnock will explain that one of the probationer inmates, a male [[ausar]] named [[RK Lah]], has escaped. Darnock describes him as a dangerous eco-terrorist who seems to have established a grip over the local [[zil]], and is directing them to attack the plantation.

The professor it is particularly important Lah is brought to justice because a [[Snugglé]] is soon to appraise Mhen'ga and decide if it is suitable to be completely agriformed. Darnock believes Lah is trying to sabotage this, and asks Steele to find and retrieve him.

Outside the plantation Steele can talk to [[Able]]. Able says that the zil responsible for the attacks are his tribe, and that they are furious about the plantation being built on what they consider their land. He says the situation might be resolved peacefully if Steele appeals to his chieftain in the right way, before suggesting ways of doing this.

The zil encampment is above a huge waterfall to the far north of the map. Before Steele can get at it they must defeat [[Kane]], who is guarding the bottom.

Without the [[climbing kit]], climbing up the waterfall drains 6 energy per square and confers an accuracy debuff during battles upon it. There is a 30% chance of being attacked by a [[Zil Hornet]] or a [[Zil Hoverfly]] in each square. If Steele ever reaches 0 energy whilst upon it, they are forced down to the bottom.

Halfway up on the 'Driftwood Shoulder' square, Steele must pass a high reflex test to avoid falling down into the [[Naleen Mating Ball]]. Whether they manage to beat it or not, they will emerge at the bottom of the waterfall again.

Above that to the east is a non-hostile square, which leads to a zil shrine containing an [[Amber Idol]]. This is valuable, but taking it will prevent any peaceful negotiation with the zil.

At the top Lah and the zil chieftain [[Quinn]] can be found, waiting for Steele.

The zil have come to call Lah "word-wolf", and seem to believe his words have actual power. He has used this to rouse them into violent action against the exploitative practices of Snugglé. Bothrioc are a white-skinned, four-armed humanoid species with extensive, flexible chitinous armor. The only places on their body that have skin are the stomach beneath the ribs, the head and major joints such as the groin, armpits and buttocks. Their noseless faces are mostly free of chitin, but for a few plates that sculpt their features. Where these plates form differ from bothrioc to bothrioc, although all have an upper and lower lip plate creating smooth, thin, hard lips that nevertheless are fully capable of articulation. Furthermore, their foreheads possess the only skin tone plate of chitin on their body, which blends in seamlessly to the skin around it, but is grooved to direct sweat away from their eyes in lieu of the more common eyebrow seen amongst most species. All bothrioc have solid-color eyes, ranging from dark brown to iridescent purple to pitch black. Bothrioc can see in the dark better than most species, relying on a light reflection system to enhance dim conditions. In complete darkness they are as blind as any other.

Bothrioc ears are sensitive and have a chitinous coat that dampens incoming sounds, limiting the amount of damage loud noises may otherwise do to them. Sensorially bothrioc largely rely on a small pair of antennae embedded just behind the hairline that are angled straight up. These pick up minute vibrations and allow them to detect movement relative to their position. Amongst other things, this feature of bothrioc anatomy is crucial to their famous trapdoor ambush as it allows them to detect when prey enter their range without having to see them. The legs are arranged in a diamond configuration such that two legs point forward and two back. The reproductive habits of bothrioc are complex and have only recently become understood by the limited research teams able to travel around the cave systems of Myrellion.

Generally speaking, the species creates a dominant and submissive role between two members when they meet, if one of them feels the desire to reproduce. One partner assumes dominance by force or persuasion, inserting their ovipositor into the ovipositor of the submissive party and retrieving some of the fluid within the reserve. This fluid, which serves as a lubricant and psychoaffective when used for oviposition, is able to fertilize eggs when taken into the ovipositing cavity of a bothrioc. Some debate exists about the viability of potential insemination using other fluids; as no alien researcher has been willing to engage in intercourse with the ovipositor, it remains uncertain. It is theorized that any genetic-material delivery fluid will suffice, as it has been shown a nyrean male can fertilize bothrioc eggs.

Having taken their fertilization fluid from the submissive party, the dominant will then insert their ovipositor into the cloaca of the submissive party to begin oviposition. Alternatively, they will elect to hunt down a different submissive to lay the eggs into, depending upon taste. The eggs themselves are round and somewhat pliable, getting firmer as the young within mature and need more protection. The eggs are noted to be about 5” across and of a distinct, dark violet hue when laid.

The effects of the slime that accompanies eggs from their ovipositor are incredibly versatile. First, it acts as a lubricant, easing passage for both the dominant and submissive parties. Second, it acts as a fertilizer or semen-analogue, as discussed above. Third, it is mildly adhesive to egg shells and strongly adhesive to itself, creating a situation in which eggs attach to the lining of whatever orifice they are in surrounded by a substantial bubble of the slime. Fourth, it carries a hormonal and psychoaffective payload.

===Psychoactive Effects===

Hormonally, bothrioc reproductive oil carries many oestrogen and progesterone analogues, which in most species will have a feminizing effect as well as an uptick in sex drive due to a more minute amount of testosterone. In a technically-genderless species like bothrioc, there is little to no effect on secondary sexual characteristics, but instead these hormones serve as a trigger to reduce egg production and increase slime production within their ovipositing abdomens. As such, a repeated submissive is pushed further and further into the fertilizing role and becomes less and less effective when ovipositing. The hormones used in egg production, however, are self-reinforcing. A bothrioc who has reason to produce more eggs, for example, having deposited them or having had them deteriorate, will experience a mild increase in egg production. As such, a dominant bothrioc will eventually produce vast amounts of eggs, but a submissive bothrioc is not eternally caught on the submissive side if they seek to change.

The psychoaffective payload, however, may keep a submissive member of the bothrioc on the submissive side. These chemicals produce low-level euphoria and suggestibility through the duration of egg incubation, reaching a peak during the final evacuation of the eggs, generally guaranteeing orgasm and, due to heightened suggestibility, firmly entrenching the idea in the egg-layer’s mind that carrying and laying eggs is an activity they enjoy and would like to experience again. Thanks to the suggestibility throughout the incubation, an incubator is more easily acquired by another dominant bothrioc for further oviposition if they have currently unimpregnated orifices.

While the psychoaffective payload’s effects are not inherently permanent, they are self-reinforcing and will eventually achieve permanence within the subject’s mind on repeated or intense exposure. The end result of this, easily observable among the harems of dominatrix bothrioc, is an extremely carefree and happy state of mind, resulting in low willpower and high libido. Many have assumed that this results in intelligence loss, however when sufficiently invested in something the submissives have tested to have mental faculties within the standard deviations of their species and notably some geniuses.Their altered state of mind does, on occasion, result in such a disconnect from usual affairs that the subjects become less capable of understanding someone who is not motivated by sex. Additionally, their speech becomes peppered with frequent vocalized pauses to collect their thoughts as well as a changing vocabulary reflecting their general pleasure with life and lack of desire to be serious or be particularly invested in matters most would consider important.

Bothrioc are sentient, sapient, language-using predators. They lack much of a distinctive culture due to their solitary nature. They hunt alone, and usually only seek each other out for reproductive or sexual satisfaction. As such, while they are not actively shunned by the myr that rule the surface, they have little say in the affairs of the world above or below. Dominant bothrioc are excellent tacticians and cavern combat experts, typically have excellent vision unlike the myr, and have been occasionally hired by both sides as commanders for troops, especially when plotting surgical strikes. They lack a head for numbers and have fallen out of favor in the trench warfare currently underway on Myrellion.

===History===

Traditionally apex predators, the bothrioc’s inability to collectively organize has resulted in them been completely outstripped by the myr and even the nyrea, so have little to no say in the wider affairs of the planet, occupying the same political position the similarly-minded wetraxxal do. If bothrioc were removed from the planet today, there would be little evidence they existed aside from mentions in myr records.

The long history between bothrioc and the two myr species is recorded universally by the latter and is thus biased. What can be understood to be true is that bothrioc have enjoyed a sort of mixed fascination and revulsion from the myr, as evidenced by their twin nicknames of “Egg-Giver” and “Egg-Beast.” In fact, most tales the myrs tell of bothrioc are twinned with one variant favoring them and another casting them down. Gold myr tell of a beautiful queen who came to be enthralled of a bothrioc lover. In one telling, the bothrioc became her consort and inseminated the queen via her ovipositor, and also gave the queen eggs to build a sizable bothrioc family at the palace in addition to the royal family. In another telling, the bothrioc was in fact of the dominatrix subspecies, and stole the queen away to the deeper caverns where she simply became another pet in the harem. Both tellings are uncharacteristic of bothrioc behavior as they neither form families nor do they kidnap their harems, generally. What this and dozens of other tales tell the anthropologist is that bothrioc have always participated in history alongside the myr, whether as slaves, merchants, prostitutes, generals or royalty.

The bothrioc and the nyrea are the source of the native variant on the phrase “getting along like cats and dogs.” This is largely due to the difference in value between a nyrean male and a nyrean female as far as bothrioc are concerned. A nyrean male is the ultimate prize, as with one docking it is possible to fertilize eggs, deposit them, and take in a second dose of semen to fertilize the next batch when they are ready, a veritable sexual one-stop shop. Meanwhile, bothrioc have almost no interest in attempting to take nyrean women due to the lack of fertile material and their tendency to struggle and fight back. This doesn’t stop dominant bothrioc from mounting a surprise attack to drop some eggs for spite, even in the nyrean’s own ovipositor, which results in a dual-pregnancy when she inevitably uses her ovipositor on some hapless submissive. Nyrean women will of course take every opportunity to take advantage of the submissive bothrioc in the same way the dominant bothrioc are known to take advantage of them, and it is not unknown for a bothrioc’s ambush to be botched, allowing the nyrean to turn the tables on a dominant as well. That the two share the same habitat results in many such interactions happening on a regular basis, which is what caused the myr to coin the phrase “fighting and fucking like the both and nyr.”

The face is pale with an angular look to it that suggests predatory intent and is framed by long, loose pale-blue hair neatly tucked behind chitin-shelled ears. Not far behind the hairline is a pair of firm, unbending antennae. There aren’t any eyebrows, merely a ridge where you feel like they should be. Beneath that ridge are a pair of eyes that are slightly larger than human standard, but pulled tight. Somewhat unexpectedly, they do have eyelashes atop actual eyelids. The eyes, however, are black as pitch, the particular shade which makes it hard to identify their shape and depth. There’s nothing breaking up the distance between eyes and mouth. The distance isn’t quite as vast as it would normally be if there was a nose, which seems to be largely due to how big the eyes and mouth are. The mouth is thin, seemingly permanently compressed or pursed, but it is wide, and when Ara Kei speaks it splits open hugely, revealing a massive set of teeth and a long tongue.

Behind the pair of legs not facing you is the quadomme’s abdomen; at least as big as a gold myr’s, it is clad entirely in black, pliable latex-like chitin. The bothrioc could be described as toned, in the small expanse of stomach that is snow-white skin rather than chitin, unlike the rest of the lower body. Even that gives the impression of someone tuned for combat by genetics rather than training, however.

Altogether, the bothrioc ambassador gives off the impression of intellect and good manners lightly coating a highly evolved and utterly assured rapacity.
