She accidentally joined the crew of the ''Silence'' after stowing away and fixing a broken shield emitter on the strange, alien space ship. Thanks to her mechanical aptitude, she was allowed to stay aboard despite her acerbic attitude, and eventually rose to the rank of Chief Engineer shortly before the events of ''[[The Silence]]''.
