Description

Victor Steele was a famous galactic adventurer, businessman, and playboy who lived during and after the 13th Great Planet Rush. He founded Steele Tech, one of the galaxy's successful Mega-Corporations, and left a trail of bastards and broken hearts in his wake as he scoured the new frontier for wealth and opportunity. He's the father of Captain Steele, the main character of Trials in Tainted Space, and provides the hook for the main plot of the game.

Appearance

“[...] Medical science is amazing, but your father underwent so many mutations in his life that he was barely considered human by the time he finished carving out his fortune. Sure, he looked fine when he came home, but he only managed that by taking on the most humanesque mutations from the various races he encountered. I shudder to imagine how long that took him, or how expensive it was to purchase specific splices.”

- quote from Maki, Victor's lawyer

Thus far, Victor Steele is vaguely described, if at all, during TiTS.

History/Personality/Information of Note

Victor Steele came from humble origins, working as a spacer near the beginning of the 13th Great Planet Rush. In the opening days of the Rush, Victor set out for the new stars, laying claim to vast riches and building up a new company, Steele Tech, which would eventually become one of the Mega-Corporations that dominate galactic trade. In his adventures, Victor was hounded by his conniving brother Maximilian Steele, who sought to steal everything his more successful brother had earned -- and indeed, leeched a highly successful life from Victor's accomplishments through legal loopholes and deceit. Despite his brother's manipulations, Victor became a wealthy and famous man, a renowned adventurer and lover who left a trail of bastards and broken hearts across the frontier. His adventures took him to many strange worlds, and the beds of many stranger aliens. He was mutated several times, both voluntarily and not, which over time caused the breakdown of his DNA to the extent that not even the youth-preserving treatments he regularly purchased could keep him alive forever.

After roughly two centuries of life, Victor became very ill, and conceived of a plan to continue his legacy: a child. A legitimate heir. Victor spent a great deal of time selecting the right woman to bear his heir, and a fortune in genetic manipulation to ensure that his child was the perfect successor to his legacy. The result of this endeavor was you, his Progeny and heir -- the Player Character of Trials in Tainted Space.

Interactions

You are not able to talk to or interact with Victor during the course of the game. The story begins in full shortly after his funeral, after all. Still, Victor makes his presence known during the tutorial of the game, wherein he talks his child through the basics of combat, lust attacks, and recruiting companions.

Most of the information you get about Victor during the course of the game comes second hand, from people who knew him during his life. Carl Jakovich and Anno Dorna are some of those who have a history with your late father, and it's possible to find and talk to at least one of his bastards during the story. Others who have had a known Victor in the past include Celise, Maki, Ezekiel Entara, and Horace Decker.

Quests

Victor Steele provides the starting hook to the main quest in Trials in Tainted Space -- to follow the dataprobes he's sent out across the galaxy and use them to find and earn your inheritance.
