The tutorial, or the "night of the blizzard" or "the weird blizzard", is the event in which Master Tollus brings Kasyrra into the world of Savarra and its conclusion marks the beginning of the Champion's quest to pursue her.

Characters Involved

Preamble

There are many worlds and there are cracks in space between those worlds, called portals. Many portals lead to Mareth, however, none seem to leave it. A group of human mages, trapped and desperate to return home, became demons and shed their humanity to serve their new queen, Lethice. Lethice began a war on Mareth, to conquer and corrupt the land to fuel their corrupted power. With the use of portals, demons would barter with the greedy and foolish into sacrificing innocent lives for power and dark magics. One such sacrifice, a Champion from Ingnam escaped her fate by defeating the demons waiting for her on the other side and set out on a one woman crusade to bring an end to the demons. This story was a year ago, and a world away.

This Champion's tale begins with a brief look into their past. Nearly a year ago, they left their former life behind to seek fortunes on the wild frontier. A year's worth of travelling, exploring, and fighting has led them to book a passage to the furthest reaches of the known world; The Frost Marches. Having just made their way into the village of Hawkethorne, a heavy and unseasonable snowstorm in autumn has them take room in the town's tavern, The Frost Hound, which is run by Garth and assisted by his pregnant daughter Gwyneth. Garth and Gwyneth become the Champion's only company for most of the days as the storm remains furious, making even small ventures down the dirt-packed road a risky proposition.

The Third Day

On the evening of their third day in the village, the Champion sits casually at the tavern's bar. Garth snaps them out of their long reverie as he asks if they're alright. What he says next is dependent on the Champion's race:

Garth pours them a drink and comments that he doesn't see much of the packs out and about anymore, not with the damn orcs pouring out of the mountains. He's seen too many pups lose themselves to the north these days, so he asks if they have anything on their mind, they should talk about it, considering they've been a good guest.

Garth comments that he knowns no orc that can lose themselves in though, and while the orcs and lupines don't have the best of relationships, the Champion has been a good guest. He pours them a drink, and adds that its been a lonely few days with the storm, so if they need someone to talk to, he's here.

Garth pours them a drink and comments that he knows that the storm's pretty much trapped them in the town, however, they've been a good guest, so if they've got something troubling them, they're free to share as that's what bartenders are there for or so he's heard.

Regardless, they take Garth's offer and begin to put into words their troubled thoughts. Suddenly, a crash and howling cold winds interrupt that thought as a woman in a heavy coat stands at the tavern's door. She weakly calls for help, however, no one moves for long moment until Garth grabs his cane and hobbles towards her. The rest of the tavern patrons turn away, and the Champion is left with the following options:

What the hell — all these people here, and the limping bartender's the only one to stand up? What kind of people are they!?

Very hero. Such Champion. Wow!

Do Nothing The townsfolk have the right idea: this isn't your problem. Mind your own business and enjoy your drink.

Following Garth, the Champion heads to the girl just in time to catch her as she collapses. They note the girl's face is covered in mud and dirt, and she seems to have flecks of dried blood at the back of her head.

In her delirious state, she mistakes the Champion for the father.

In her delirious state, she mistakes the Champion for someone named Calla.

In her delirious state, she asks who caught her.

Garth uses his apron to cover the girl's head wound, and states that while it's not bad, she'll need healing. He asks the Champion to keep her talking as he cleans the wound. The girl gets her bearings and slowly states that her name is Caitriss, or Cait. Garth explains that she took a bad hit and they slowly move her to an unoccupied chair.

A few minutes later, Cait is seated with a snow-dampened cloth on the back of her head. If the Champion is a White Mage, they are able to heal her wound. Cait begins to explain that a bunch of hooded men jumped her wagon just outside the village gates. She adds that she and her sister were travelling north to meet their dad when they got caught in the blizzard. They had attempted to enter the village when one of the men hit her with a club, and when she woke, her sister was gone. She starts to sob, while the Champion and Garth exchange a concerned look, as Garth comments on the unusual nature of the attack especially with the current weather. Cait states that she has to go find her sister, causing Garth to sigh wearily as he states that she can't go alone, but his leg prevents him. She looks to the Champion, with a desperate yet determined look. Their only option is to Help Her.

The Champion shouts at the collected villagers for their inaction and exclaims that she needs help. As the girl collapses into Garth's arms, the Champion shuts the door to keep the cold out and assists Garth. The Champion notes the girl's face is covered in mud and dirt, which seems to sully her beautiful complexion.

In her delirious state, she asks who caught her.

Garth grunts, revealing the flecks of dried blood from the girl's head. They ask her name, and she gets her bearings enough to answer that her name is Caitriss, or Cait. A middle-aged woman tears her long skirt and hands it to Garth as a bandage. After he ties it around her head, most of the people in the tavern help carry Cait to a nearby chair.

She looks to the Champion, with a desperate yet determined look. Their only option is to Help Her.

Doing nothing has the Champion follow the other patrons and ignore the girl, turning back to the bar and their drink. What happens to the girl is never known to them, as both Garth and her went missing after that night. In the morning, the storm had cleared up enough for the Champion to continue their travels. A few townsfolk ask them if they've seen Garth, but they haven't, and wish them luck on their search. They think of where to go next, possibly a little further south if the weather's going to be this foul.

(This ends the game as the Champion has refused the call for aid)

Skipping the tutorial has the Champion immediately skip to the event when they wake up after meeting Kasyrra. The following things are taken into effect/assumed:

  • The Champion refused Kasyrra's offer
  • 225 XP gained
  • 102 + (0 to 19) EC gained
  • Combat Basics codex is unlocked and read

The Champion extends their hand, and states they will go with her, to which she thanks them profusely. As they make for the door, Cait explains that she's not much of a fighter, that she can do a bit of magic and healing with the staff, although she dropped it at her cart. Before they leave, Garth hands the Champion a weapon appropriate to their class, either a knife he kept around or a short sword or staff that belonged to his wife. They thank Garth and set out of the tavern and into the howling blizzard.

The search for Calla

Through the intense storm, Cait leads the Champion to her cart, and while she is able to recover her staff, there is no sign of her sister. If the Champion is not a White Mage, Cait will heal the wound on her head. They make their way north, following a trail of footprints that lead towards an old castle looming over the cliffs. The Combat Basics codex will also be unlocked.

First group of Cultists

As they make their way north, two hooded figures intercept them, proclaiming that the night of the Ritual is upon them and that they should bow low and give praise to the dark lady. A fight commences against 2x Cultists.

Victory against the cultists will have them flee as they must warn their master. The Champion will obtain a Wicker Shield and 51 to 60 EC.

Being defeated by the cultists will have them claim that their master has no need for more sacrifices, that they should be thankful for the dark lady's mercy. The cultists then turn north and withdraw.

Second group of Cultists

Pressing further north, the duo spot a group of cultists about to fuck when Cait interrupts them by mistaking the lupine woman about to be fucked as a victim. The cultists take up arms as the woman states that she's been draining the male cultist's balls all night. The third cultist adds if Cait was the impure one Tollus had said, and the male cultist comments on the irony of her word considering she's a slut herself, to which she cackles and corrects that impurity is holiness in the Mistress's eyes. The lupine woman measures up the Champion and mocks the would-be knight in shining armor rescuing the damsel in distress. Cait apologizes, as she thought the woman was in trouble, as another fight commences. This time the Champion and Cait fight a cultist, along with a Cultist Shieldbearer and Cultist Magos.

Victory against the cultists will have them flee as they must warn their master. However, this time Cait is able to intercept one of the female cultists and forces her to yield. Cait demands to know where her sister is, to which the cultist answers that the sacrifice was taken to the temple by the Master as the ritual that conjoins the worlds together is tonight and the dark lady demands a sacrifice for her blessing. As she points upwards, a blood moon shines perfectly along with an out of season storm. If the Champion is a Black or White Mage, they clearly know that something is very wrong, else they can tell that things don't look good. A good kick knocks out the captured cultist as the pair make their way further north. The Champion will also obtain a Dagger and 51 to 60 EC.

Similar to that of the first group, being defeated by the cultists will have them claim that their master has no need for more sacrifices, that they should be thankful for the dark lady's mercy. The cultists then turn north and withdraw.

Crates

The crates the second group of cultists were hauling are present, and one of them has been broken open revealing several pink and blue glass vials inside.

The Ancient Temple

Arriving at the towering stone structure, the sound of chanting and the cries of Calla has Cait rush through the temple's doors. Inside the temple reveals a dozen robed figures standing in a circle around an altar that holds a naked Calla, whose been evidently drugged with a potion of pink residue held by a man with a bladed staff. The man shouts to the heavens, for the dark lady to take this offering and show them her blessing. A purple-pink portal flares from above the altar, and despite the frigid winds outside, the temple becomes unnaturally warm and an unbidden heat spreads through the Champion and Cait. The Champion decides to put a stop to this by brandishing their weapons and shouts for the cultists to leave Calla alone. The surrounding cultists make way for the man with the staff to come before them, he introduces himself as Master Tollus and welcomes them to take a seat as the ritual is almost complete. Cait screams to let Calla go, which Tollus replies that the dark lady requires a pristine and untouched sacrifice. As Cait's staff begins to build up power, Tollus shrugs and readies his own staff, momentarily commenting on not recognizing the Champion but brushes it off as one more fool to punish. A fight commences against Master Tollus.

Having been defeated, Tollus shrieks for this brothers to ensure the sacrifice. He lands a hit on Cait, knocking her down, and locks weapons with the Champion while the remaining cultists bring Calla to the portal. There is nothing that can be done as they throw Calla into the portal, causing an explosion of pink light and psychic heat, which knocks everyone down.

Tollus shouts for his minions to head to the Warpstone, as he grabs a case off the altar, the Champion noting that the item wasn't there before. As the cultists escape, Cait, in abject desperation attempts to rush into the portal, but rebounds off it like a brick wall, and while her robes are scorched with magic backlash, she remains unharmed. She begins to cry and scream as she runs back to the portal, slamming her fists against the solid plane of force that surrounds it. The Champion can only place a comforting hand over her shoulder as they assess the temple. Just looking at the portal gives them shivers, along with a heat that spreads through their loins and an irrepressible pressure on their heart, the kind of pressure one feels being in the presence of a lover. The more they look at it, the shape of the portal is strangely vaginal, and they wonder what leads on the other side. The Champion is left with two options:

Option Tooltip
Comfort You can't leave Cait like this. Stay awhile and do what you can to ease her riven heart.
Pursue You won't let these zealot bastards get away with what they've done. Run after them, before they get away.

Deciding to comfort Cait has the Champion sit beside her as she cries into their chest. When she asks where did her sister go, the Champion can only answer that they don't know, however, someone in town might know something. Convinced that there is nothing else that can be done, Cait hugs the Champion and thanks them for helping her, and travels back to her cart to salvage anything useful before wolves get to it. As Cait disappears into the distance, the Champion notes the storm winding down, however, they feel something draw them back to the ruined temple. As they observe the surroundings, they see a rough trail to a castle the cultists must have taken and note that they should pay it a visit once Cait has recovered. While this is definitely not the last time the Marches will see the cult, exhaustion has them shelve the issue for the night. Turning back towards the temple, they have just enough time to realize the expanding portal before it flares out as hot as a sun and hurls them against a wall, knocking them out.

Deciding to pursue the cultists has the Champion drag the sniffling Cait with them as they run up the hillside. They are unable to catch up the cultists as they disappear through the use of an ornate stone pendant, the Champion can only assume that it was the Warpstone Tollus had shouted earlier. Cait attempts to do the same trick but to no avail, causing her to curse and slump against the statue. The Champion reassures her that they'll find her somehow, and while the reception of Cait's plea for help means that most people wouldn't be willing to help her, somebody has to know something. With that in mind, the Champion plans to return back to town, however, Cait tells them to go ahead as she'd like to be alone for a little while.

As they begin to head down the hillside, the Champion notes that the storm isn't as severe as it was before, along with questions about the ruined temple and portal. As they pass through the temple and the portal, they have just enough time to realize the expanding portal before it flares out as hot as a sun and hurls them against a wall, knocking the both of them out.

Tollus compliments them for putting up a good fight. He returns to his work as the cultists throw Calla into the portal. An explosion of pink light and psychic heat bathes the temple, and a shockwave knocks everyone down. A bewildered Tollus stumbles to his feet as the Champion grabs their weapon, a glance towards Cait reveals that she's been knocked out. The temple begins to crumble, causing Tollus to grab a case off the altar and shout for his minions to run. The Champion notes that the case was not there before, and as they pick up Cait and attempt to escape, they feel a horrible, electric tingle pass over their spine. As they look behind, the portal erupts again, throwing them against the wall and knocking them out.

Kasyrra

The Champion wakes to find themselves still in the temple.

Cait lies breathing next to them, however, she's still unconscious. A White Mage Champion attempts to channel their healing power, however, pain lancing through their brain has them unable to cast even simple spells. Taking in their surroundings, the temple's roof has completely collapsed, as well as most of the remaining pillars and walls. Barely anything is left save for the altar and a small chunk of debris. They see a lone figure, wreathed in shadows, standing at the foot of the portal.

Cait nor the cultists are anywhere to be seen, however, they are not alone in the ruined temple. A lone figure stands beneath the portal, wreathed in shadows.

As the portal vanishes, it releases a final wave of lustful heat, and the figure steps towards them. The cloven woman purrs that they're finally awake and that they should consider themselves lucky that she arrived as she shielded them from the worst of the portal's blast and crumbling temple. The Champion starts to get a good look at their rescuer, a Champion with the Acolyte or Scholar background note that at first, this woman reminds them of the warrior-goddess Lumia, however that thought will soon be further from the truth they realize. As they continue to drink in her appearance, she permits them to stare a little longer, delighted by the look on their face - they can only ask what is she.

She tsks and coos that she's not a what, her name is Kasyrra, and she advises them to try to close their jaw as to make a good first impression with the first person she's seen in this world. With her clawed hand, she closes their agape mouth and gently turns their head up. She states that this is the first time she's ever traveled through a portal, and probably the first anyone born on her world for that matter. It took the fall of a queen to provide the opportunity to steal the secrets and the sheer power required to use them. It felt amazing, she'd never been so turned on before, that a month in the queen's breeding pits doesn't hold a candle to the fire in her loins right now. The Champion is caught off guard as they now see Kasyrra's massive bestial cock, and while she loves their amused look, she pumps her flared cock at them, stating that they've stared long enough. She asks if her precious little cult has been spreading rumors of demons, if the legends also say how beautiful and dangerous she is, and how incredible she can make them feel with just a touch.

The Champion gasps as they feel another wave of sensuous heat from where she touched them. Kasyrra moans that she knows what they're feeling right now, that she felt its magic a thousand times stronger as she went through the portal. Before exploring this new world and taking what is has to offer, she needs someone to suck her cock. As the Champion blinks in half-surprise and half-horror, she counters that she can see the lust in their eyes, and that they can consider it as repayment for saving their life. With that, the Champion is given the following options:

The defiant refusal amuses Kasyrra, reminding her of the Champion of Ingnam. She asks for the Champion's name, to which they give after she tells them that there's no harm in saying it. She stakes her claim on their pure and radiant soul, saying that she'd hate for them to lose it before she comes to collect, although the world they will wake up to will be very different. As she leaves, the building heat in their body swells, and they cum as they're wracked with arcane pleasures from her touch. They collapse and unconsciousness takes them once more.

Kasyrra asks for the Champion's name, to which they give. She tells them that the world they will wake to will be much different and that they should try to hold onto their soul until they meet again. She then plucks a blue gemstone from her studded horns and flicks it to them. As she leaves, the building heat in their body swells, and they cum as they are wracked with arcane pleasures from her touch. They collapse and unconsciousness takes them once more.

Wake Up

The Champion's sleep is troubled as their dreams are dominated with lurid scenes of debauchery and hedonism more vivid and extreme than even Kasyrra asked of them. Eventually, the Champion groggily rises to a noon and warm day, and finds themselves in their room at the Frost Hound. As they get dressed, they take a look outside their window and its evident there is no sign of the unseasonable blizzard. As they finish gathering their equipment, if the Champion had defeated Master Tollus, they will find his weapon propped up against the wall. Making their way to the common roof, they see Garth and Cait as the sound creaking stairs announces their presence. Cait gives them a fierce hug, happy that they're finally awake. When asked how long they've been asleep, Garth answers that it's been a little over a week, ever since the flash of light up on the hill. As Garth prepares a meal for their starving stomach, Cait sits the Champion down and asks what happened at the temple. They begin to recount their meeting with Kasyrra.

Cait asks how the Champion survived, as she thought demons were just supposed to be allegorical. They answer that while they don't know why Kasyrra didn't force the issue, she had stated something about coming back for them later.

Option Tooltip
Tell All Tell Cait all the lewd details of your encounter with Kasyrra.
Hold Back Maybe don't make mention of what happened, exactly...

With a blush in their cheeks, the Champion fully explains the experience they had with Kasyrra. A flush beet-red Cait had been wondering what the white gunk all over them at the temple was, and is appalled that it was demon seed as she was the one who cleaned it off them. When asked if Kasyrra really let them go, they comment that Kasyrra made some vague claim on coming back for them some day, and considering what they did, it sounded like a promise to continue where they left off rather than a threat.

The Champion explains what Kasyrra had said, and skipping the details of their misdeeds with her. With some great effort of magic, Kasyrra came through the portal and had promised that they would wake to a changed world.

After the Champion concludes their recount, Cait asks Garth about the flying thing he saw after the explosion of light. Garth returns with plates of food, and answers that he saw something that looked like a half-drake heading north into the Old Forest. In addition, Garth states that a couple of days after the explosion, hunters have been returning back and babbling of plant creatures attacking them and mad animals. Orc tribes have also begun to show themselves in the east, making folks afraid to leave town, if the Champion is also an Orc, he adds no offense to his words. With Kasyrra's threat to corrupt the world, it can't be a coincidence and they must find her first, for everyone's sake.

With a grin, Garth wishes them luck and welcomes the Champion and Cait to stay at the inn for as long as they like, since they'll need a place to rest from time to time. Additionally, he states to Cait that he owes her, more than he can say, to which she answers that while it is her calling, she appreciates it. When asked what the exchange is about, Cait explains that after the Champion was brought back, since they weren't waking up, she was thinking about leaving to look for her sister when Gwyn went into labor. Having been trained with the basics of midwifing at her temple, she stuck around and helped out. She was shocked that Gwyn gave birth to 8 pups, an impossible feat even for lupines. Garth's smile fades as he states that rumor-mongers immediately set to work, and the next thing he knows, The Baroness travels to his doorstep to offer a business proposition for his daughter - to run a nursery. The first of the funds came in the day after and Cait had helped Gwyn with the place. The Champion is a little bewildered that the girl that had eight pups was walking around the next day, to which Garth snorts that states that this wife whelped in the morning and was plowing the fields by midday. The Champion asks if Cait has been well, to which she shyly gives an averting answer. Garth smiles proudly and laughs that she'd been doting over them like a mother hen while they slept, and Cait stammers that she had to make sure they were alright.

At the end of breakfast, the Champion begins to piece together the events that transpired. With Kasyrra flying to the north, along with the creatures attacking people in the forest would be the best place to start if they wish to find her. There is also the matter of Cait's missing sister, that there could be an expert on otherworldly magic somewhere, but in the mean time having an extra healer along wouldn't hurt. Regardless of what they decide, Garth and Cait may be able to help them out.

The Champion has the option to recruit Cait now, or later. This also marks the start of In Her Footsteps and Cat Call, along with Game Stats codex entry.
