The Joint Ausar Federation is a loose alliance of independent ausar worlds, all of whom have sworn subservience to Ausaril, the homeworld, and its Star-King. The J.A.F. is primarily a military/self-defense alliance, born out of the early days of Warp Gate travel which quickly sparked interstellar wars between the far-flung ausar colonies. Alongside their close allies in the Terran-Space Coalition, the J.A.F. is one of the most powerful and influential groups in the galaxy, and retains vast military and scientific support.

As one of its largest and founding members, the J.A.F. has a strong influence over the United Galactic Confederacy and the Confederate Parliament.

History

The Joint Ausar Federation was created shortly after the Gate Wars fought by the ausar shortly after the Warp Gates first came online between their systems. With no allegiance or communication between the disparate colonies, each governed by an all-powerful king, interstellar wars of conquest quickly broke out all through ausar space. Several worlds were destroyed outright. Only through several high-profile political marriages and threats by the Gates' designers to shut the network down completely did the fighting slowly come to a stop. When it did, the Star-King of Ausaril convened several of his fellow autocrats and insisted upon a new alliance, now that the ausar worlds were able to communicate with one another for the first time since their foundings. Several generations of negotiations passed before the Joint Ausar Federation we know today emerged: a council of leaders and kings representing several hundred worlds in a parliamentary-style government overseen by the Star-King of Ausaril.

The Joint Ausar Federation made first contact with humanity some few generations after its founding when a human colony ship contacted an ausar colony on the fringes of then-known space. Thanks to the quantum communications technology the human ship carried, the ausar were able to quickly interconnect their homeworlds in ways never before thought possible, causing a revolution of information sharing and communication. In turn, the Federation provided the humans with the technology to replicate their Warp Gates, which instantly allowed the human colonies, separated by gulfs of space but connected by communication, to physically connect and trade. Almost overnight, the human race went from hundreds of scattered worlds to a connected empire comparable in size to their new galactic neighbors.

Eventually, the Joint Ausar Federation and the newly formed Terran-Space Coalition would, alongside more and more alien races discovered by both, form the United Galactic Confederacy, which now serves as the ruling body for much of known space.
