A large cluster of small berries, glistening faintly in the light. Orange-red in colour for the most part, the berry cluster fades to white as it tapers towards the stem, making it resemble a fox's tail. As you look at them, you can't help but get a sense of deja vu, a feeling that these look somehow familiar.
According to the local lore of the Frost Marches, they're perfectly edible, but you'd need to be really, really hungry to want to eat these things instead of anything else. As to why that's the case... you'd have to taste some to find out.
Acquisition
Fox Berries can be found while exploring areas in the Old Forest. Alternately, they can be purchased from Ivris' gear menu in the Alchemist's Shop in Hawkethorne.
Usage
Twisting off the stem from the cluster, you pop the fox berries in your mouth and begin chewing. Barely moments have passed before you're reminded in the most painful and acute manner why sane people don't eat these things if they can help it at all: you feel as if you're chewing on half-dried starch. It would have been better if the berries had simply tasted bad, but these things simply have absolutely no flavour whatsoever, no matter how you chew. It's almost surreal, and the thoroughly-masticated fruit flesh clings to the insides of your gullet as it slides down with agonising slowness.
This item will be consumed on use. In doing so, one or more of the following effects will occur:
- (No fur) Grow black, blonde, orange, or red fur.
- (Non-vulpine arms) Grow pawpads and claws on your hands.
- (Non-vulpine legs) Legs become digitigrade.
- (Non-vulpine head) Head becomes vulpine.
- (Non-vulpine ears) Ears change to fox ears.
- Hair turns black, blonde, orange, or red (matching fur color)
- (No tail) Grow a fox tail.
- (Non-vulpine tail) Tail becomes vulpine.
- (Non-canid cock) Cock becomes canid.
Fox Berries are compatible with the following alchemical ingredients:
- Mandrake Root (Grow fur)
- Yew Branch (Change arms or legs)
- Soft Mud (Change head shape)
- Laurel Sprig (Change ears and hair color)
- Tall Reed (Grow/change tail)
- Turgid Mushroom (Change cock)
If you already have all of these features, eating a Fox Berry or any of the alchemical mixes will have no effect.
