Taothians are the enemies Kinu faces during the events of The Princess Blade, led by Raphael and a benefactor known only as Lord Taoth. They are anti-Kitsune zealots, being willing to target and exterminate children and non-combatants believing they're no better than Demons. While not professionals, they have clearly been trained and organised by someone with considerable resources.

You see them, crouched by your door. Lithe and vulpine, easily mistaken for one of your own in the dim moonlight.

But there the similarity ends. Clothing and light armor in the style of the natives, the sort which you've seen in the cat-woman's shop in the native settlement to the south. One tail, where even a newborn kitsune has two. And where human faces ought to be, muzzles, and above that black-and-white masks that obscured the remainder of their features, like something out of a theater. They're not anemic by any means, but there's a certain thinness to them that transcends the mere material.

During the events of her flashback, Kinu wakes to discover the Taothians have invaded her den and are trying to set her quarters on fire. They've also disabled the torii gate and are ransacking and burning down everything they can find. Kinu battles through them, with the invaders revealing they view the Kitsune as being no better than demons and are there to wipe them out.

Kinu rescues everyone and leads them outside, only to be surrounded by Raphael and more Taothians. They watch as Raphael taunts and nearly kills Kinu, before being driven off by reinforcements from the Kurokawa Kitsune Den.

Ways Between

They next intercept Kinu and Kohaku in the Ways Between, launching an ambush as the kitsune return from a trip outside of the den. Kinu again battles through them with Kohaku and their bodyguards' assistance. When Raphael appears to challenge Kinu again, Kohaku and the bodyguards make their escape as Kinu distracts the Taothians. Once her allies are gone, Kinu is again able to evade Raphael and make her escape into Hawkethorne.
