“ | We don't really have alchemists in the Far North, so learning was like skinning a thick king seal. My hands learned faster than my head, completing mixtures while I shouted at my teacher for better explanations. Eeesh, the smug looks she gave me; still haunting my dreams.

— Kavi |
Kavi is the mother of Tarah, and the alchemist-herbalist of the Marefolk Village. She makes and sells contraceptives and potions to stop lactation to the village, although she only sells to the Champion once they have tried some of her Barley Tea.
Appearance
“ | Kavi the alchemist is roughly eight and a half feet of northern minotaur. Her thick fur coat is mostly brown, with intermittent splotches of white that share a contrast with her deep blue eyes. Dark brown hair is interlaced with colorful beads and stone rings. She doesn't make a point to show off, but her every movement seems to invite your eyes to feast on a new facet of her figure. The thick and colorful cloth of her dress does nothing to conceal the curve of her ample bottom, and little more to cover her chest.
The twin mountains of her breasts quake and quiver with the slightest motion, and you can just spy the pale pink flesh of her areola at the hem of her dress. Each pillar of boobflesh is big enough around to hug, but the bovine matron manages to handle herself as gracefully as any catfolk dancer. The most bizarre part of it is that despite their size, they maintain a healthy bounciness. The rest of Kavi's body is sturdy enough to carry her milky burdens. Broad shoulders, broad hips, and a strong back give her the impression of a very comfortable bed. A thick tail with a long tuft of chocolate fur swishes behind her, long enough to brush the stone tiles as she walks. |

Approach
The Champion approaches the tower, and upon opening the heavy-looking wooden door, they note that it's surprisingly light and assume that it's probably enchanted. They take in the interior of the tower, eyeing the numerous exotic plants and colorful herbal mixtures before the heavy wooden door slams shut, hard enough to shake some of the leaves of the plants on the countertop. A voice yells from another room that the magic on the door doesn't last if no one is touching it. However, the voice stops as a large northern minotaur woman enters the room, and realizes she's mistaken the Champion for her daughter. The woman quickly apologizes, and yells for her daughter, Tarah to bring a snack for their guest. The Champion asks if she gets much business from outside the village, since she seemed surprised by an outsider. She occasionally does have outside customers, mainly mousefolk who've ran afoul of particularly rowdy gnolls, but most days she deals with local affairs like medicine for allergies or dyes for hair. However, with the encroaching centaur raiders, more and more hunting parties are coming back injured. She shakes her head and says it isn't something for a visitor to be worried about, introducing herself as Kavi. A young woman enters the room, announces she has snacks, introduces herself as Tarah, and immediately slips and falls on her butt, causing the sweets she was carrying to scatter over both herself and the ground. She apologizes for not being careful, and the Champion reassures her that anyone could make a slip like that. Tarah brightens, stands, and offers the Champion one of the fallen snacks before Kavi shoos her away and tells her to wash up before asking the Champion what she can help them with.
The Champion finds Kavi checking her inventory. The minotaur smiles when she notices them, and she asks if they're there for anything in particular.
With that, the Champion has the following options:

Talk
The Champion comments that this far south, Kavi must be melting with the Harvest Valley's weather. Kavi waves it off, saying that if heat was a problem, northern folk would never get any trading done. She adds that the last winter was very refreshing, and it was fun watching the mares bundle themselves in layer after layer, especially Tarah, who looked like a wrapped present.
When asked how she wound up living with the marefolk, she explains that the biggest export the north has is herbs, and that plants with specific growing conditions that are particularly prized. The elder marefolk alchemist bought Kavi's herbs and paid well for her knowledge on said plants. Afters staying in the south for a while, she'd entertained the thought of returning to the north after finding an apprentice, but having Tarah banished that idea. She stayed, learned alchemy from the elder, and eventually took her place once she passed some years ago, and she's become rather skilled at mixing the various medicines the marefolk require.
Kavi explains that the Far North is cold. She states that while the Frost Marches natives think their winters are dangerous, she could walk in such weather naked and overheat without much effort at all. Up north, she strove to make sure the inside of her home stayed warm, as any one of her husbands could freeze to death in minutes without a full wrapping of warming garments; she wouldn't last much longer either. She explains that a better word to describe the north is "frigid." She adds that she was surprised by the marefolk's rivalry with the centaurs, because folks didn't have time to squabble up north.
Families are the key unit in the Far North, with women taking multiple husbands, at least partially in order to accumulate body heat, with the most favored husband sleeps nestled up to her. They keep each other company while they're out hunting, or, in coastal settlements, fishing. Kavi finds the community of the Marefolk Village a nice change from the emphasis on family-centered self-sufficiency, and appreciates being able to sleep with someone without worrying if everyone is warm enough. She likes it, she comments.
With genuine curiosity, the Champion asks what happens to male marefolk. Kavi answers that they're born no different from the girls, but a change happens during or very soon after puberty, as the changes that turn them into men also cloud their minds. Although they can function enough to speak, their thoughts stay always on the next fuck. In history, it's possible that one or two retained their manners, but it's bad odds. So when a male reaches puberty, he is given the choice to take Mare's Barley or be exiled. It is his choice: he is given a period of time to experience the mental changes, and if he decides that the feeling is welcome, he leaves the village; otherwise he takes the drug. At first it must be taken daily, but once the changes begin, the requirements become more lax.
That's how, she explains, it was with her daughter. Kavi fretted in the months before Tarah's decision, but when it was offered, Tarah didn't even consider not taking the barley. In fact, she took to it exceptionally well. Although, Kavi adds, it's a mixed blessing, considering she's rather high-energy.
Try Barley
After having talked about Males, the Champion can ask for a taste of Mare's Barley in its tea form. Kavi prepares the tea, and states that the tea is favored by mares even when they don't require medicine, but she herself prefers it with milk.
The Champion then has the following options:

Take Tea | - | Drink the tea as-is. This will trigger a random equine transformation. |
|
Ask Milk | - | Ask to take the tea with milk. This will trigger a random bovine transformation. |
|
No Thanks | - | On second thought, maybe barley isn't for you. |

As long as the Champion tries the tea (in either form), the Champion has an instant transformation, which surprises Kavi, and she rushes over to inspect them thoroughly. She asks if the transformation is the result of a curse, and the Champion explains that it's because of Kasyrra. Kavi comments that she heard of the demon from foragers, and that Kasyrra has the centaurs worryingly wrapped around her fingers. She adds that although she's quite interested in the Champion's changeable capabilities, she can't give away her stock for free, but she's happy to sell it.
This ungates Kavi's Shop.
Milk
The Champion asks, in the most polite way they can, what Kavi does with her milk, considering the size of her assets. She confirms that while she has a ton of milk, they underestimate how much a whole tribe of marefolk can drink. She adds, though, that it would take more than a gaggle of thirsty mares to drain her.
She invites the Champion to see how it goes, and they may either accept or decline.
If the Champion accepts, they follow Kavi into one of the tower's adjoining yurts, which is packed with large barrels filled with milk for the mares to pick up. Kavi sits in front of an empty barrel and invites the Champion to sit on the opposite side. The Champion, she explains, will not be nursing; the barrel will catch some of the milk they are unable to drink. Kavi blasts the Champion's face with creamy milk, who does their best to drink as much as they can; Kavi fills the barrel at the same time. Once the barrel is nearly full and the Champion is dripping, Kavi goes to get the Champion a towel, and shares she'll be full again in a few hours. After drying off, the Champion leaves, receiving the Well Fed status effect.
The Champion asks Kavi for another drink of her milk, and she says they seem to have a knack for asking when she's the most pent-up. She gestures to the back room, and the Champion can either accept or decline.
If the Champion accepts, they follow Kavi into one of the tower's adjoining yurts, which is packed with large barrels as before. The Champion sets up across from Kavi with a schoolchild's anticipation. Kavi blasts them again, and as the Champion eagerly drinks, she remarks that it's so fun to watch them. Once the barrel is nearly full, and the Champion is dripping with milk, Kavi states that she'll be full again in a few hours and goes to get a towel for the Champion. After drying off, the Champion receives the Well Fed status effect.
Relationships
If the Champion purified the Centaur Village in Harboring a Fugitive, Ahmri shares that Kavi helped teach her some magic, although, as Kavi's work is based in alchemy, the northern minotaur wasn't able to teach Ahmri too much. Nevertheless, Ahmri discovered she has something of a knack, and is able to make her symbol of Lumia glow brightly.
Kavi adores her firstborn grandchild. If the Champion becomes Tarah's mate during Saving Tarah and has a child with her, Kavi spends time with the baby if the Champion brings him to the Marefolk Village for visits.
Kavi loves and worries about Tarah, her ditzy daughter. The Champion learns much more about her relationship with Tarah through the events of the side quest, Saving Tarah, and if they choose to carry at least one of Tarah's children.
Zuzaan sometimes gets a potion from Kavi to stop lactating, as it's annoying for her while working in her smithy. In addition, from time to time, Kavi or Tarah restock the buckets of water for the smith.
Shop
Kavi's merchant services become available once the Champion tries her Barley Tea or Milk tea.
