Hunting with valkyries

The Hunting with valkyries is an encounter that can occur in the Old Forest, the Frostwood, and the Glacial Rift after the completion of Shadows Over the Sun. A random group of valkyries will ask if the Champion would like to join them on their hunt. The target of the hunt is different depending on the map, the Old Forest and Frostwood offer a Cave Bear or Frost Elk, while the Glacial Rift offers an Ice Troll or Walrus. During the hunt, one of the valkyries will join the Champion's party as a guest. If the hunt is successful, one of the valkyries will proposition the Champion for sex.

Interactions

After the events of Shadows Over the Sun, the Hunting with valkyries encounter can appear in any zone of the Frostwood, Old Forest, and Glacial Rift.

First Encounter

While traversing through the foliage, the Champion spots a group of valkyries huddled in a circle. One of them waves the Champion over, explaining that if they're up for it, they are about to hunt a (cave bear/frost elk), and they would be happy to have company. Their meat is big enough to provide dinner for five squads and the beasts become pests if they breed too much, additionally, their pelts can be made into clothing and blankets. With that, the Champion has the option to:

Victory against the cave bear/frost elk will have one of the valkyries offer a small prayer to send the animal's spirit to rest, before they harvest and store the corpse in wax-cloth. With the hunt successful, a valkyrie will proposition the Champion for some post-hunt sex.

If defeated by the cave bear/frost elk, the entire party safely flee, and one of the valkyries comment that sometimes hunts can go bad and there's nothing else they can do but nurse their wounds and be more prepared. They hope that this defeat does not dissuade them from joining in the next time. If present, Arona and Etheryn will make commentary on the defeat.

While traveling through the snow, the Champion is started by the sudden arrival of a valkyrie, who nearly collides with them. The valkyrie, slightly haggard, apologizes and asks for their aid in battle. Two more valkyries emerge as they are followed by a slightly wounded ice troll. Regardless of how the Champion feels about the valkyrie's request, they don't think they can back off without the troll giving chase, so they decide to join the fight.

If the troll is defeated, a valkyrie will explain while they don't eat troll, their bones are sturdy and their tusks make excellent ivory. The animals of the rift will feast on the meat before any of rot sets in. With the troll defeated, a valkyrie propositions the Champion for some post-hunt sex.

If defeated by the ice troll, the entire party safely flee, and one of the valkyries comment that sometimes hunts can go bad and there's nothing else they can do but nurse their wounds and be more prepared. They hope that this defeat does not dissuade them from joining in the next time. If present, Arona and Etheryn will make commentary on the defeat.

Subsequent Encounters

Subsequent encounters with the valkyries will have one of them invite the Champion to join them on their hunt. With that, the Champion has the option to:

Subsequent hunts on cave bears and frost elks is the same as the first encounter.

If the target is an ice troll, one of the valkyries explains that the ice trolls have been breeding like rats lately and they terrorize the local populations. Currently they have one cornered in its temporary den, however, that makes it more dangerous. If present, Arona or Atugia will make a comment on the ice trolls. As the Champion nears the den, with a Barbarian or Scholar background, they recognize the extra gashes in the ice and dirt as tusk-grooves and other territorial markings. Regardless, the troll leaps out of the den and a fight begins.

Victory and defeat is the same as the first encounter.

One of the valkyires explains to the Champion that exposure to the natural leylines causes some of the bulls to grow to tremendous sizes, and they often cause trouble and injuries to the local villages. Additionally, they have enough meat and blubber to supplement a week's worth of meals in the palace.

One of the valkyires explains that they got word that another walrus was getting territorial around a herd of Selkies.
