The Glacial Rift Selkies are a generic group of 3 Selkies, consisting of one Selkie Songstress and two Selkie Huntresses, that can be encountered while exploring in Zone 2 of the [[Glacial Rift]]. Interrogating the songstress, the Champion prods on why they have such a grudge against the elves, and what kind of offer did the cultists make. The selkie explains that for two centuries the elves have been dumping foul things into the water, causing the ice to melt and driving away the fish. Additionally, the warm waters attract monsters from the trenches and everyone can feel the rift itself waking up. The spirits of ice, glaciers, and ocean are waking and telling them to go to the elf keep to drive them out, and its not just the selkies, but all the races in the rift have banded together to get rid of the guests who've outstayed their welcome.<br><br>In regards to the cult, they were initially interested in a giant squid they brought in (one of the deep trench monsters) and wanted to know where it came from. Despite being land-dwellers, the cultists followed the selkies underwater to the trenches without any issues of drowning and freezing, and as thanks, gave them food and other pretty things that they can't really get underwater. The Champion concludes that the cult took advantage of the selkies' good-nature and hired them as scouts and the cult having business with the ocean trenches.<br><br>If present, [[Quintillus]] will chime in that the cultists weren't able to do that before, and most of the rank and file didn't know any actual magic. He assumes that it's likely the work of [[Master Tollus]], not [[Kasyrra]], as he would be motivated enough to learn, borrow, or steal that kind of power.

The Champion states that they cannot, as they have been pursuing the Demon Cult. Etheryn states that she's perfectly fine, however, they interject, claiming that the reek of elven corruption clings on her, as it does with all of her kind. The Champion attempts to explain that the corruption comes from the cult and not the elves, but they are ignored as they advance menacingly towards Etheryn. If Etheryn is not present, the seal-women show concern for the Champion as they state that they almost mistook them for an elf. The Champion states that they're on an important errand and asks if they have seen any people in black hoods around. The selkies talk amongst themselves for a short while, before stating that they're all over the place, that they're nice people, and once they're finished with what they're doing, the black-hooded people might be interested in helping the people of the rift in chasing away the elves. The Champion attempts to correct the misinformation about the cult, however, one of the selkies whispers something to her partners, and their friendly demeanor vanishes as one of them states that the Champion smells of the elf city. The Champion confirms the fact, which causes the selkies to accuse them of being a spy.

Interrogating the selkies will have the Champion question the Songstress on the rift's grudge against the pale elves, and the offer the black-hooded people made. The Songstress explains that the elves have been throwing horrible things into the water, causing the ice to melt and warming the water, which attracts horrible things from the trenches of the sea. The sprits of the ice, glaciers, and ocean are waking up and speaking to them in their dreams; that they must go into the elven keep and drive them out, and that they must do it together with the jotuns, avanai, and siorcs. The Champion ponders that although [[Kasyrra]] is capable of such things on an individual scale, it's not within her power nor her personality to do so. Moving on, she talks about the cult, who offered their help to fight the elves once they're done with whatever it is they are doing. The selkies first met the cult when they became curious in a giant squid the selkies had brought in, to which the selkies showed them where it came from, and in return, the cult gave them many nice things. The Champion notes that the cult were able to follow the selkies underwater, with no problem, to which the selkie replies that it was weird and a little scary that they could, since most land-dwellers would drown or freeze, but since they were given stuff, the selkies did not dwell on it. The cult stated that they would stop the giant squids and other bad things from coming out of the trenches, and once they were done, they would think of helping the selkies with their elven problem. The Champion begins to dwell on the facts, pondering that cult took advantage of the selkies' good-nature and hired them as scouts, that they're interested in the deep-sea monsters, and went down into the ocean trenches without any problems. If [[Quintillus]] is present, he will state that this isn't something the cult would be able to do before, as most of its rank and file didn't know how to do any actual magic back then. He formulates that [[Master Tollus]] is the most likely suspect, as he would be motivated enough to learn, borrow, or steal whatever power if it meant he had something to gain. Whatever the case may be, they have got to figure out what he is up to.

The Selkies or Seal-tailed Women encounter is a generic combat encounter of selkies consisting of a Selkie Songstress and 2x Selkie Huntress that can be encountering in Zone 2 of the Glacial Rift. Like most of the local races in the Glacial Rift, these selkies have a big hatred towards the elves and their centuries of befouling the waters, they're specific complaints are that it's driving away the fish and warm waters attracting monstrosities from the ocean trenches.

Interactions

The first thing that will occur is that

The sense of unease sets upon the Champion as the ice beneath them begins to shake. A trio of humanoid-figures emerge from the ice and water, revealing them to be seal-like women armed with bone javelins.

The leading seal-woman demands that the Champion leave, and it will be their only warning. Confused, the Champion inquires if they've trespassed onto her territory, she answers no but the elven-kind are no longer wanted in the rift as all of them have suffered long enough from their presence and the goddess they brought. They demand to take their proclamation back to the elf city, to never return, and they won't take no for an answer.

Initially concerned, the seal-woman warns the Champion to turn back due to a coming conflict, as they'd rather not have the uninvolved caught up in it. The Champion explains their business with the cult, to which the seals turn their attention and hostility towards Etheryn, sneering that the reek of elven corruption clings to her and all her kind as they've brought nothing but suffering. Ignoring the Champion's attempts to negotiate, they are forced to fight.

Initially concerned, the seal-woman warns the Champion to turn back due to a coming conflict, and they'd rather not have the uninvolved caught up in it. The Champion explains their business with the cult, the seals chatter amongst themselves as they answer that the cultists are all over the rift, they're nice people that don't bother them and seem to look busy a whole bunch of times. They said that once they're done with their business, they might be interested in helping them chase off the elves.

As the Champion attempts to explain how dangerous the cult is, one of the selkies whispers something and their friendly demeanor immediately evaporates. The Champion smells of the elf city, and the seal-woman proclaims the Champion as a spy for those horrid creatures, resulting in a fight.

As the Champion makes they way across the ice, the rumbling below alerts them to an upcoming presence as a trio of selkies burst through a bored-hole through the ice. In melodious chorus, they demand the Champion to go away and they're not welcome. If present, any one companion will make a comment: Cait/Arona/Quintillus. Regardless, a fight will begin.

With the Champion defeated, the selkies will get angry at the Champion being an elf/elf-friend or Etheryn, shouting that they should go back to their elf city because the horrid elves are scaring all the fish away. Having worn out their burst of anger, see the Defeat Sex Scenes options below.

Interrogating the songstress, the Champion prods on why they have such a grudge against the elves, and what kind of offer did the cultists make. The selkie explains that for two centuries the elves have been dumping foul things into the water, causing the ice to melt and driving away the fish. Additionally, the warm waters attract monsters from the trenches and everyone can feel the rift itself waking up. The spirits of ice, glaciers, and ocean are waking and telling them to go to the elf keep to drive them out, and its not just the selkies, but all the races in the rift have banded together to get rid of the guests who've outstayed their welcome.

In regards to the cult, they were initially interested in a giant squid they brought in (one of the deep trench monsters) and wanted to know where it came from. Despite being land-dwellers, the cultists followed the selkies underwater to the trenches without any issues of drowning and freezing, and as thanks, gave them food and other pretty things that they can't really get underwater. The Champion concludes that the cult took advantage of the selkies' good-nature and hired them as scouts and the cult having business with the ocean trenches.

If present, Quintillus will chime in that the cultists weren't able to do that before, and most of the rank and file didn't know any actual magic. He assumes that it's likely the work of Master Tollus, not Kasyrra, as he would be motivated enough to learn, borrow, or steal that kind of power.
