Different packs of feral wolves roam the Old Forest and are generally a nuisance to Hawkethorne. The townsfolk of Hawkethorne had initially blamed the wolves and harpies for the growing number of disappearances in the surrounding regions, until the appearance of the Demon Cult. The lingering corruption of Kasyrra seems to have agitated the wolves, making them more feral and hostile.

The wolves attacking the Champion are only interested in the potential food the Champion is carrying.

Appearance

You're fighting a pack of feral wolves. Each one of them seems more mangy and beat-up than the last, with patches of missing fur, dirt caking their mane, and old scars and wounds covering their bodies. They circle your party as they snarl and nash their teeth, foaming at the mouth and seeming as hungry and desperate as any animal. Armed with nothing but their gods-given defenses and weapons, they're more than capable of biting, clawing, and tackling wayward travelers like you into submission. No doubt these beasts have blood on their minds.

One of them is carrying a bow across her back, and kneels beside a slavering wolf whose body has become wrapped in writhing floral vines, almost like a cloak draping around him. He pants heavily, sniffing at the air, and then turns his attention from the warrior to you.

Interactions

The Champion's wander through the woods is interrupted by a faint guttural noise. Suddenly, a pack of wolves emerge for the forest's edge, barking and snarling as they charge towards the Champion. The wolves encounter contains 3x Wolves, and gains an additional if the Champion's party exceeds 2 members.

Defeating the wolves will have them whimper and lick their wounds, before they make a hasty retreat into the forest.

With the Champion defeated, the wolves dive into the Champion's gear, looking for any food. If they carry any of the items below, they will lose only 1x of the first applicable item (in order). Regardless, if the wolves have managed to find food, the pack quickly retreats back into the woods.

Howling in the Dark

During the early parts of Howling in the Dark, at the Rocky Cliffs when the Champion is faced with the decision to climb the mountains, deciding to Hike Around will have them encounter and fight a group of 2x Corrupted Lupine hunters and 3x Wolves (the wolves having a slightly different power).

Azyrran First Encounter

In version 0.8.13, Azyrran's first encounter was changed.

Encountering her in the Old Forest, before the entrance to the Ruined Wayfort, will have the Champion witness her being attacked by Effigies. The Effigy Ambush consists of 1x Effigy Archer, 2x Effigys, and a Verdant Wolf - a slavering wolf with writhing floral vines. The wolf detects the scent of the Champion and alters the group, forcing the Champion to join the fight. The verdant wolf only appears during this fight and is not mentioned again.

• When Silly Mode is enabled, the Wolves' headshots are replaced by the Dorna Twins from Trials in Tainted Space
  • Additionally, if Cait is present in the party, her headshot will also change for the duration of the fight.
