To your immediate east, though, is a solid-looking structure made from stone and wood, right up on the edge of the cliff. A number of ropes are suspended from a pulley system in the structure's rafter, connected to a wheel that has harnesses for pack animals... but there's no sign of the beasts up here, nor the actual lift that they must have once serviced.

You peer over the cliff's edge, down a smoothed section of white stone, to see there's another, roofless structure at the bottom. The ropes connect place to place, but again, you see no sign of any life down there.

The plummeting divide between the kingdom of Khor'minos and the Coastlands stretches for hundreds upon hundreds of yards with a road the descends slowly towards the shore.

Detailed Summary

The Lift

Stepping out of the caves and into the open road, the Champion takes stock of their surroundings. To their east is a solid structure of stone and wood that sits at the edge of the cliff. A number of ropes are suspended from its pulley system, connected to a wheel that houses harnesses for pack animals. While the lift is currently abandoned, they can see the ropes connecting to a roofless structure at the bottom.

The Operator

Asking the few servants and merchants still present in the outskirts, the Champion goes through three minotaurs with no useful replies. On their fourth attempt to ask someone, a young salamander man sitting in a dark alley illuminated only by the flickering of his own tail, answers that he would be the current lift master, as his father was the previous. When asked if they can get it working, he points out a few problems:

  • The ropes have been cut
  • The demons freed all the animals

Once all items are present, they'll need to go to the wheelhouse at the bottom, with the old road being the only path and it's swarming with monsters, demons, and raiders.

Goat Herd

About a hundred feet from the Roadside Cliff, in a stretch of flattened ground, lies a large black chasm in the mountainside containing about thirty large goats.

Given the Champion's experience with wild goats, although not in a scale this large, it takes the Champion a few hours to wrangle them all, but its clear the goats were domesticate animals at some point due to their lack of resistance. If present, Cait will make a comment. The Champion is successful and obtains the Goat Herd key item.

With nothing but love in their heart, the Champion squeals and bounces towards the goats. While easily startled, the goats quickly calm down as the whole herd surrounds the Champion - happy to be hugged and petted. If present, Cait will make a comment. The Champion is successful and obtains the Goat Herd key item.

After surveying the herd and determining that they only need a few to manage the lift, the Champion begins their attempts at wrangling some of the goats.

The Champion is successful in securing the goats and obtains the Goat Herd key item.

Beaten by a herd of goats is sheer embarrassment enough. The Champion will have to try and wrangle them again.

Rope

No. I need rope. As heavy and long as you can manage.

Alright, now it's beginning to sound like a euphemism. All we need is a couple of knots. But I'll get ye yer rope. Whaddya need it for, anyway?

—The Champion & Maidensbane

While the interactions with Maidensbane is not purely tied to this quest, the Champion must fight and win against the pirate to choose one of the rewards; that can be as much rope as she can possible give them. With her ship beached and nearby, she orders her crew to provide what the Champion has asked for. If the Champion is defeated by her, they will have the option of choosing where she'll fuck them.

Restoration

At the abandoned wheelhouse, the Champion hitches the goats into the harnesses. The hard part is replacing the rope that connects the wheelhouses together. Slowly and methodically, the Champion uses the goats to rotate the ropes so they can tie the replacement rope to the frayed ends. There's a smaller rope connecting the two wheelhouses and its tied to a small brass bell - when ringed, signals the operator above (the salamander boy) to get the lift moving.
