"My subordinates and I have been scouting around awhile, and to be frank I'm amazed that none of us have succumbed to one or more of the insidious dangers that lurk in these parts. I'm not even sure how long the forest can contain this corruption... it's only a matter before it spreads further southwards. I suppose we only have Keros to thank for our good fortune so far; he has a habit of growing tired of carrying one on his shoulders for too long.

The Forest Kitsune are a group of three scouts / foresters led by Hinata that answer to Warden Azami. Since the strange blizzard and the growth of the Alraune, they have been stuck in the Old Forest and have been forced to result to banditry in order to obtain food and supplies.

"It seems improper, now that you have shown me kindness despite the circumstances, to not be properly introduced. My name is Hinata Kuroda, and you are?"

"Can I trust you on this? I would rather go without than create one more poor soul wandering the depths of the Frostwood seeking fluffy tails."

"Were I alone, my pride would tempt me to refuse on principle, but that is simply not an option when I have two girls under my care."

    Appearance

The forest undergrowth rustles, and another one of those foxy folk — this time with four tails instead of two — steps out onto the trail, a bladed spear in his hands and its business end pointed directly at you. His style of dress is a little different from what one would usually find in the Frost Marches — like the other two bandits, he's clothed in what looks like a long robe. Warm furs and heavy fabrics have been worked into the clothing, though, suggesting that these three aren't complete foreigners, either.

Hinata, black-furred/haired dude. Scruffy-looking. Black court vampire. Unfailingly polite. Stoic and serious. Takes the responsibility of "his girls" very seriously.

"There's no need to make this difficult for either of us. All I want is a little bit of this, a little bit of that; I'll give back as much as I take. Isn't that sweet? An equitable exchange?"

    Appearance

Gradually, you're aware of the golden-furred kitsune standing over you, the one the others called Yuzu. Wild strands of unkempt hair sweep in front of her eyes as she looks down at your prone form, then the sets down her bow and sighs. Dropping to her knees, the kitsune purrs as she cradles your head in her lap.

Yuzu, blonde girl. Hair that goes to mid-back. White court vampire. Generally genial and sensual. Fairly feminine.

    First Encounter

The Champion will first encounter the Forest Kitsune when exploring the Old Forest while the Alraune has not been defeated yet, and they must be at least level 2. While travelling through the forest, the Champion will sense that something is off and they ready their weapons, a Lupine Champion will be able to identify a distinct scent in the wind, and a Champion with the Hunter background will know that they are in immediate danger. The sound of stretching elastic draws the Champion's attention and they immediately throw themselves forward as an arrow whistles through the air. The Champion faces the direction where the arrow came from, and a man speaks out to them; apologizing, that they won't kill the Champion, but they need to survive and rob them. Hinata states his name and promises that they will repay what they will take from the Champion in equal measure. When asked if they want coin, he states that it doesn't fill the stomach, they need food, otherwise there will be alternatives. When asked they don't they just hunt game instead, Hinata answers that they don't dare touch strange fruit of the forest and the usual game has grown alarmingly scarce. He cuts the conversation by asking if the Champion will allow them to take what they need, or will the Champion force their hand.

This will also unlock the Kitsune and The Old Country codex entry, if it wasn't already.

With that, the Champion is given the following options:

    • Help - Despite the way they're asking, you can understand there's someone in need here.
    • Refuse - You're not giving up anything of yours! Fight them!

Note that this will permanently change future encounters with them in the Old Forest.

    Help

Understanding the difficult situation they are in, the Champion will clarify if the kitsune want food. Hinata answers that they're not picky, as long as it does not carry any taint that the forest pertains, he adds that if the Champion wishes to keep their provisions, they can feed directly off the Champion's life force. If the Champion had met Kiyoko, they would know what the process entails, else they are taken aback. Regardless, Hinata explains that neither he nor his subordinates would take anything of that nature without the Champion's consent, and he comments that sex is usually the most pleasant way to go about it, else he could simply rip is straight from them, but that would be the most uncomfortable option. With that, the Champion is given the following options:

    • Share Food - Give the hungry kitsune a portion of your provisions. This will consume one camping supplies. (requires Camping Supplies or Trail Rations)
    • Share Essence - Rather than give up any of your provisions, feed the kitsune trio in a more... direct, if pleasurable, manner.
    Share Food

Sharing food will have the Champion dig through their pack and produce food bundles wrapped in wax paper and give them to Hinata, who hands it over to his subordinates. He expresses his gratitude with a deep bow and asks for the Champion's name, which they give. Once they have secured the food, Hinata's subordinates depart and he states that if they meet again, they could speak at length on more peaceful terms. Before leaving, he warns the Champion about a disturbing creature that has rendered the bridge north of Frostwood impassible, and was the reason why they were reduced to banditry. If present, Cait, Arona, and Atugia will make their own comments on Hinata's warning, or on the kitsune.

    Share Essence

Deciding to share their essence instead will have Hinata's expression soften as he states that the Champion is either brave, extremely foolhardy, or thirsts for experience. If Cait is present, she will express her concerns, else Hinata will explain that the Champion will feel weak and disoriented afterwards, although there should be no permanent damage, as long as they don't overextend the Champion's constitution. The kitsune will all disrobe without shame or hesitation, although Hinata allows his subordinates to take first pick to draw from the Champion. Once the kitsune have had their fill, the Champion will be quite drained and Hinata explains that Kiri went a little overboard when taking her fill. If the Champion has companions, Hinata will suggest that the Champion get some rest and informs them of the location of their camp, shortly before they get dressed and leave. If the Champion does not have companions, Hinata will bring them to their camp to rest until they're capable of braving the forest. After this, the Champion will receive the Enervation status effect.

    Refuse

Refusing to help the kitsune will have Hinata laugh bitterly and state that they'll have to move onto more aggressive negotiations, before calling on his subordinates to attack the Champion.

If the Champion defeats the kitsune, Hinata will draw as much distance as he can, before whistling to his companions to retreat. Once they've left, he will lunge into undergrowth and disappear, the Champion unable to give chase. If present, Cait or Arona will give comment, else a companion with the tags; Playful or Slutty, will give comment.

Should the Champion be defeated, Hinata will call Kiri and Yuzu to loot through the spoils while he holds down the Champion. If the Champion has Trail Rations or Camping Supplies, the archers will be able to find and take it, and once they've secured the supplies, Hinata orders them to leave first as he will be covering their tracks, but before leaving, he gives the Champion a lesson on charity, but mocks that his words are falling on deaf ears, so he thanks them for the food and bids them a good day. If no food is found, at random, one of the kitsune will drain the Champion, while the others drain a random sexable companion. Unlike Hinata who goes straight to the point to get the essence, Yuzu drains with a kiss and Kiri with a bite. After they are drained, the Champion will receive the Drained status effect.

    Subsequent Encounters

Repeat encounters with the kitsune will only occur if the Champion did not share food or essence with them. Unlike their first encounter, Hinata will no longer ask the Champion for food or essence, and will instead directly attack the Champion. Defeat and victory scenes are the same from the first encounter.

    At the Kitsune Camp

Once the Champion has helped the kitsune, they will be able to visit them during the night (20:00 - 5:59). When visiting the kitsune during the night, the following options will become available:

    • Chat - See if you can't figure out what the situation in the Old Forest is.
      • Home - Why can't they return home?
      • Forest - What've they managed to observe in the Old Forest so far?
      • Kitsune - Can he tell you more about his people?
      • Feeding - Deriving sustenance off other people... isn't it disturbing?
      • Bridge - So, the bridge needs clearing, does it?
      • Orb - Show Hinata the amber orb in its amulet and ask if he knows anything about it. He's a kitsune, after all. (requires the Amulet of Transference / Amulet of Union)
    • Feed - Share some of your provisions with the fox-people. (requires Camping Supplies or Trail Rations)
    • "Feed"
    Feed

When the Champion brings out food for the kitsune, Kiri and Yuzu perk up, however, Hinata tells them to hold back. The three will kowtow towards the Champion as Hinata expresses his gratitude for their kindness, although, if he were alone, his pride would tempt him to refuse on principle, however, it is not an option when his subordinates are under his care. The two girls begin eating, as Hinata reminds them that they are still on half-rations because they cannot rely on the Champion's charity for long, and only when they are done eating does he take a small portion to eat. As the only means of compensation, Hinata tells his subordinates that they will have the Champion use their camp for the night, and although the Champion attempts to refuse, Hinata, due to his pride insists that they do. If Cait, Brint, or Atugia are present; they will make a comment on the bedding, if not, a random companion with the tags; Reserved, Aggressive, or Playful will have their own miscellaneous comments.

    "Feed"

Going for the more direct method of feeding will have Hinata stare at the Champion for about half a minute as he cycles the wooden prayer beads through his fingers. After a deep sigh, he hopes the Champion has not acquired a taste for this, and he cautions them that some develop a fondness for being fed upon; that they become governed by their own cravings and through no fault of their nature that such appetites have been awakened. He asks the Champion if he can trust them on this, that they won't become another poor soul wandering the depths of Frostwood chasing fluffy tail. After a moment of silence, Hinata claps which signals his subordinates to position themselves on either side of their superior as they prepare to bow. The Champion insists that the bow is not necessary, but Hinata states that it is; that if they don't give thanks properly, they may start thinking of them as little more than food, and the trio kowtow towards the Champion as gratitude for their offering. Yuzu looks uncertain, however, Hinata reassures her and states that she will go first, followed by Kiri and then himself. Kiri interjects by stating that Yuzu is uncertain because its not right that Hinata keeps depriving himself all the time, that they understand the responsibility he feels for their well being, but he can hardly lead them to the fullest of their capacity if it goes on much longer. Hinata relents and they start preparing, however, if Cait and/or Atugia are present, they will volunteer to assist in the feeding. If the Champion has both Cait and Atugia present, Yuzu will feed on Cait, while Kiri will feed on Atugia, if only one present; they will take turns while Hinata feeds on the Champion, otherwise all three will feed on the Champion. After the feeding, the Champion will receive the Enervation status effect, which is immediately removed because the Champion sleeps after the feeding.

    Chat

    Home

On the topic of the kitsune being stranded, Hinata explains that a river separates the Old Forest and Frostwood, and that there is only one bridge that spans it. The problem is that a noisome creature has taken up residence on the bridge's far end and anyone foolhardy enough to attempt to cross is quickly taken by it. Unfortunately the river is too broad and its currents too swift to attempt to cross it, although Kiri and Yuzu have been bouncing ideas, the furthest they have gotten is a half-finished raft. When asked how long they've been in the forest, Hinata replies that its been weeks, that their original provisions have been depleted even on half rations. When asked why they couldn't just go to Hawkethorne, he answers that they wouldn't have any skills to contribute and that they are monsters that can live off the life force of others. If Hinata were alone, he might take the risk, hoping that the townsfolk have not heard of the kitsune outside their physical appearances, however, he has the girls in his charge, and Kiri is bad at concealing her more savage nature. So the kitsune are stuck until the bridge is cleared, or until they manage to scrounge enough materials to build a capable raft, although it would be agonizingly slow.

    Forest

When asked about the forest, Hinata sums up that the forest's situation is problematic, and that it reminds him of tales of the Godswar. He goes on to explain that there are two invasive species of plants that have corrupted the flora and twisted them to their nature. Although there are other kinds originating from the same source or from the corrupted flora, the cock-like vines and vagina-like flowers remain dominate when they invade. The sweet scents from the corrupted flora have enticed the local hornet and bee-folk to feed on them, corrupting both species. As for the fauna, many went into hiding or fled, and those that remained have been affected physically or mentally; like the wolves who've become unnaturally aggressive, and although food is food, wolf meat is painfully stringy. Kiri mutters that thankfully the fish and fox berries are still edible.

    Kitsune

In regards to the kitsune, Hinata explains that kitsune civilization comes from far across the ocean, on the eastern isles, or at least that's what their den mother tells them. Keros brought over a handful of kitsune to the world, as he did with other focal points during the Godswar to support the ranks of Sorra and Lumia. The current kitsune are descendants of the survivors of that conflict, and they form a diaspora of sorts. Even after several generations removed from their land of origin, they still don't fit in and it shows, although he is not in the mood to discuss if its a good or bad thing. Keros brought over a couple of den mothers to settle the frontier, however, one was lost due to an unfortunate accident, and with the other, makes the kitsune distantly related to each other in one way or another, although the locals have contributed from time to time.

    Feeding

If asked if he finds the kitsune feed disturbing, Hinata comments that its not from his viewpoint, or at least not any more disturbing to the requirements of physical needs like pulling radish out of the earth or killing a chicken. The Champion ponders that those two aren't considered sapient but people are, to which Hinata explains that it makes things easier. This is why they offer an equivalent exchange, although there will always be those who are rightfully mistrustful. He explains that sex is the easiest way to give back; pleasure for vitality. When asked how does it feel, Hinata answers by giving an example; that the Champion is a pot filled with water he can drink from and fill back up in its own time, granted he does not drain it dry in one go. People have different flavors, however, the kitsune can get too attached as it brings color to their existence, that they forget the precept of equivalent exchange, and that one day they get turned into a rug or coat by some vengeful kinsman. He comments that there is a reason why the kitsune are so impeccably polite, that it's a constant exercise in keeping one's uglier instincts in check.

    Bridge

Asking about the state of the bridge, Hinata replies that it does need clearing, however, the kitsune are not quite up to the task themselves. When asked what creature has claimed the bridge, Hinata replies that it is a sapient plant that has taken the shape of a voluptuous and vulgar woman; an alraune, and the originator of many such lesser creatures that roam the tainted forest. This kind of alraune is something he's used to as its more perverse and direct, from what he's gathered from spying on her. Her lair is hard to mistake as it is a large field of pink flowers that has taken root in the adjoining pale elf ruins. When asked for any advice, he explains that since the alraune is a plant, fire works well, and that oil, pitch, or grease would make a good firestarter, and if fire is not their thing than blighting or poisoning might prove equally effective. The problem being is that she keeps a handful of offspring nearby, the Champion should focus their attention on bringing down the alraune and that they should bring some scents of their own to clear their mind and counteract those which she carries. With that, Hinata wishes them luck. If In Her Footsteps is still on state 0, it will become updated to state 1.

    Orb

Showing the amulet and orb to Hinata will have him study it for a while. Once finished, he will say that it is definitely of kitsune origin, however, he can't tell them very much else, although he knows that it wasn't made in the last century or two as none of the kitsune wear anything in that style anymore. He asks where did they find it, to which the Champion gives a brief recount of their journey through the ruined shrine. Unfortunately Hinata's knowledge is of the wilds and not of the past, although, he suggests that if the bridge is ever cleared, that they go to Frostwood and ask for the matron of their den as she would know, if anyone does.

    At the Kurokawa Kitsune Den

    During Den of Foxes

The next time the Champion will encounter the Kitsune trio is when entering the Kurokawa Kitsune Den to retrieve Lady Evergreen's bountiful bag. The trio along with their superior, Warden Azami, will be the first Kitsune they will encounter, and how the Champion dealt with the trio in the Old Forest will determine their response towards the Champion's intrusion.

Helped in the Old Forest and has the Amulet of Transference / Amulet of Union

If the Champion had helped the trio by sharing them food or essence, Hinata rises to his feet, giving them a deep bow and states that this is an unexpected surprise. The Champion will reply that they'd wished this reunion was under different circumstances, but they are pressed for time. Hinata insists to at least introduce them to his superior, Warden Azami Ishida, and retells her about their great debt to the Champion for feeding them while they were trapped on the other side of the river. Azami will turn in her seat to face the Champion, thanking them for their kindness on behalf of her subordinates, however, indebted as they may be to the Champion, she cannot shrink from her duties as concierge. She asks the Champion if they have a suitable reason for trespassing, to which they reply that they do; that although they are on a errand from Lady Evergreen, their true reason is to ask about the amber orb and its amulet. After studying it, Azami confirms that it is a treasure of Kitsune make. Hinata pipes up and apologizes; that he had told the Champion to visit as the Shine Mother might know something about it. Having heard her subordinate's explanation, she tells Hinata to sit back down, and that they've been having a fine meal in their lodge, and have neither seen nor heard anything. The Champion asks if Azami can accompany them, so she can explain the situation to anyone else who might raise objections to their presence. She says that it is impossible, as she is already risking much by placing her trust in them and deliberately being derelict with her duty, she adds that the Shrine Mother is a reasonable woman, although she can't say the same for the other denizens. The quartet return to their meals, averting their eyes from where the Champion stands, although Yuzu steals a guilty glance at them every now and then.

Helped in the Old Forest but does not have the Amulet of Transference / Amulet of Union

Awkward silence fills the room as the kitsune stop their meal and turn their eyes towards the Champion. Hinata rises from his seat and slightly stumbles on his words as he greets them. The Champion wishes their reunion was under better circumstances, but they are pressed for time. Hinata seems visibly uncomfortable as he introduces his superior and explains that the Champion was the one who helped them in the Old Forest, and with that debt, he humbly suggests that Azami keep that in mind. Azami in her part thanks the Champion for returning her subordinates safely, and for their significant act of kindness, the wardens in the lodge are under their debt. When asked if she can repay the debt by letting them through, Azami states that she cannot simply neglect her duty and that unless they have a suitable reason for being here, the Champion is trespassing. They state that they're on business from Lady Evergreen, but they know its not an adequate reason. Azami replies that it isn't, doubly so since "that tanuki" is their client. She calls upon Kiri and Yuzu, as the four kitsune set aside their meal and have their weapons at the ready, although their hearts aren't in the fight from the way they carry themselves. Azami apologizes that they have to detain the Champion and they move in for a fight.

Did not help in the Old Forest

Silence falls when the group spot the Champion, and Hinata sets down his utensils and calls out to them with a narrow gaze. The Champion confirms that it is them and they guess he's finally getting something to eat on his own instead of stealing it off others. Kiri and Yuzu stare with rage and Hinata balls his fist tightly, however, none of them make a move as Azami introduces herself and affirms that her subordinates have spoken much about them. When asked if they left out the parts of their banditry in the Old Forest, Azami acknowledges that banditry is indeed reprehensible even given the circumstances the trio were in and apologizes for any problems they've caused the Champion. She states that the Champion's actions were perfectly understandable thus, she trusts they will extend this same understanding when they are equally hard-hearted in detaining them for trespass, that their debt to the Champion will be repaid with the exact same coin the Champion had bestowed unto them as they move in for a fight.

Did not meet them in the Old Forest

From what the Champion can see, the kitsune look like ordinary people having a meal, and they attempt to sneak past them, however, Yuzu alerts the rest when she spots the Champion, and in a flash the quartet are on their feet with their weapons at the ready. The Champion asks if they can't talk things over, that they're simply on behalf of Lady Evergreen to find her missing bag, however, Azami concludes that the Champion is a mercenary in the tanuki's employ, and now they've gone from not having a legitimate reason to be in the den, to being a menace. As the concierge of the den, Azami will not allow just anyone to waltz in, and orders her subordinates to assist her as they move in to apprehend the intruder.

    Takahiro

    Written by BubbleLord

There is a chance when visiting Takahiro for a variety of one-time scenes to occur, some of these scenes involve the Forest Kitsune.

    Hinata: Takahiro Annoyance

When visiting Takahiro, the Champion may find him resting on a bench with a bottle in his hand as casts a few winks at passing kitsune girls. A glaring Hinata quickly approaches the drunkard, pulling the drinking straw from his mouth, and tells him to leave Azami alone. Takahiro asks who cares if he messes with her, to which Hinata replies that he cares because it interferes with Azami's work. Takahiro replies, while picking up his weapon, that if Azami isn't sucking or fucking, why should he care what Hinata thinks. Hinata for his part shoves Takahiro and one of two things may occur: (1) Hinata immediately cast foxfire onto Takahiro, which he disarms by splashing his drink on and strikes Hinata with the butt of weapon between the eyes, or (2) Takahiro's tails stop his fall and he sighs, saying that doesn't Hinata know that his rival and him are allowed to bother each other as much as they want. Regardless of what Hinata does, he threatens Takahiro; saying that if he keeps this up, he will understand that there are scarier things than seeing the bottom of a bottle. Hinata curses under his breath and leaves, Takahiro on the other hand bursts out laughing and resumes his drinking.

    Yuzu: Takahiro Massage

When visiting Takahiro, the Champion may find him laid over a large pillow while Yuzu gently massages his back. The Champion walks over and takes a seat beside them, earning them a playful smirk from Yuzu. She greets them and they reply in kind, they will then ask if Takahiro is alright, to which Yuzu giggles and Takahiro raises his head. There is a 50% chance for either scene to play. (1) When he raises his head, he immediately regrets it and plops right back into the pillow. Yuzu explains that Takahiro sometimes overdoes it, and despite being perpetually drunk, even he can sober up. She continues by stating that he usually tries to fix it with more booze, and that its a shame because if he was clean, people might see how charming he can be, as she pinches his butt. She states that when they were younger, Azami and Takahiro were always together and there was a rumor that the two would end up married, however, their parents were against it. The Champion comments that if the two of them were together, it'd definitely been a different experience when they first met Takahiro. They will then say their goodbyes and reminds Yuzu to get Takahiro something to drink. (2) Rather than a hangover, it appears that Takahiro is not drunk; he's horny. Yuzu explains he and Azami were arguing, and she ended up splashing aphrodisiac all over him, and it if weren't for Azami getting some on herself, she'd be taking care of him instead of Yuzu. She smirks, saying that the Champion can watch if they'd like, that she's an expert at putting on a show. The Champion will have the option to watch Yuzu give Takahiro a dommy handjob up close or not.

    Kiri: Takahiro Spar

When visiting Takahiro, the Champion may find him sparring with Kiri at a nearby sparring courtyard. They see Kiri, firing blunted arrows and cursing at Takahiro, who dodges while taking sips from his gourd. Takahiro taunts Kiri, stating that Azami taught her better, and she could hit him between the eyes. Kiri in anger draws another arrow and shouts that she'll hit him between the thighs, however, the Champion notices that the arrow is not blunted and attempts to stop her. There is a 50% chance for one of two scenes to play. (1) The Champion grabs her elbow, which causes the arrow to harmlessly fall to the ground. Kiri glares at them, asking what the big deal is, to which they reply that the arrow wasn't blunted. Kiri hisses stating that she was going to miss him intentionally as she bottles up her rage and embarrassment. She storms off, and a drunk Takahiro makes his way to the Champion and complements them, stating; "Not bad for an outsider". He asks if they saw his skills, to which they reply that they did and they ask Takahiro to walk off his drunken stupor. He agrees and comments that Kiri would be "pretty hot is she took a chill pill", before stumbling off. (2) Kiri fires the shot, but hits Takahiro's gourd, which doesn't break but it slaps against his chest and it knocks him to the ground while the arrow zips off. Kiri celebrates the hit but pales when she sees the arrow's tip. A drunken Takahiro coughs and ask what she did, to which a frantic Kiri states that it was an accident and stumbles upon her words as she tries to explain that he just pissed her off too much. Takahiro grabs Kiri's top and tears it down, as he thumps his gourd between her lips, giving her enough booze for her anger to momentarily slip and she drops to her knees. The two will then proceed to have angry sex, to which the Champion may choose to watch or ignore.

    Miscellaneous

    Kiri: Frostwood Kitsune

It is mentioned during the Pity Fuck sex scene with a Kitsune Spellblade (must have accepted offer before combat) that Kiri once demanded that the spellblade finally become a man, so she went and disguised them and brought him to a native settlement to get laid. After a whore undressed and went to undress him, when her finger accidentally brushed against his cock, he came instantly, earning him the open laughter of the other kitsune present.
