Background characters are named characters who are mentioned by other characters or who passingly interact with the Champion.
Aenisa Meriel
- Aenisa was a Mallachite mothfolk priest who invented the White Fire spell, a fundamental part of white magic. She went missing on a mission to Belhar after the Godswar. The Rimebound Grimoire, deciphered by Cait, explains that Aenisa's journey to bring warmth and comfort to the ailing beastfolk tribes in the north was interrupted when she found something in the Frostwood that hypnotized her and sucked the warmth out of her, leaving her heart cold as ice.
- If Cait is allowed to study the grimoire, she discovers that, while Aenisa was driven crazy by whatever curse took her, her mind remained sharp, allowing Cait to study Aenisa's twisted Mallachite spells and incorporate it into her own magic, unlocking her Frostheart Set. While there is darkness within the book, Cait assumes that she can keep those shadows in check by using it as a catalyst for holy spells.
- Aenisa was on the edge of discovering a spell similar to the Sun of Jassira, but as cold and dark as the winter solstice: the Frozen Sun.
- Mentioned in Cait's Frostheart Set, the contents of Aenisa's grimoire are considered 'near-heretical' research.
Asira
- Asira was a great sunbird (roc) in ancient times. After the events of Shadows Over the Sun, Lumia shares that a replacement wing was forged by a powerful magesmith after he lost a wing in a battle against a dragon; the wing of endless blades was made to match the eighty foot-span of Asira's other wing. With his prosthesis, the glare from his descent alone was enough to blind a kingdom's worth of men.
- When he died, some of his spirit remained in the daggers, imbuing them with some of his inner fire and sense of freedom. They are now known as the Wing of Asira.
Azgaloth
- Azgaloth is a dragon mentioned by Lumia after the events of Shadows Over the Sun. Due to a black thorn that almost dug to his heart, Azgaloth was driven to such rage that he threatened the Yvennese countryside. Lumia gave an unnamed warrior the great spear Caranbrot to slay the dragon, but the warrior skewered the thorn instead and removed it from Azgaloth.
Chief Ugan the Ironheart
- Ahmri tells the story of Chief Ugan and his wife, Tarah of the North, when she tells the Champion about the origin of the Tarahugan River which crosses Harvest Valley. Ugan and his wife were from separate, warring tribes of centaurs in the valley, and when they were chased out, they ran into the goddess Lumia giving birth to the river in a mountain cavern in the south of the valley. Their encounter didn't solve all their problems, but it did bless them, and the river bears their names.
Golas
- A chieftain of a northern tribe of centaurs from legend. He was Tarah of the North's brother, one of the centaurs for whom the Tarahugan River is named.
Grand Magister Caedwynn var Clare
- The author of a book about portals owned by Lusina, which she shares with Cait if the catgirl is present for the mothgirl's Her Sword talk.
- In the Dreamwalkers codex entry, Jarlessa Thyri Gunvaldsen mentions that, perhaps in her children's lifetimes, Caedwynn will make a breakthrough in inter-planar travel.
- Caedwynn theorized that Dreamwalkers are so rare because they only appear in places where the fabric between worlds grows thin and tired, which only occurs in the farthest reaches of the uncivilized world.
- In the Spells & Magic codex entry, (subsection The Grand School of Conjuration), it mentions that, in the 15th year of Empress Julianna Harasii's reign, Caedwynn represented the Grand School of Conjuration at the College of Estelore.
- The Spirits and Ghosts codex entry is taken from The Binding of the Lost by Grand Magister Caedwynn of Estelore.
Karis
- The orc mother of Solveig, and part of the Kervus Tribe, Karis is a thane that resides in the Sailgraves who has numerous half-orc children with sires of other races. According to Grettel, Karis and her family were some of the few orc gals who wore metal-capped bras back in the day.
Luxanne en Errion
- Lusina's mother. Her name is currently not mentioned in-game. Lusina last saw her when she was a little girl, and her status is currently unknown.
Mars
- Mars is the local baker in the purified Centaur Village. He has an unnamed wife, and Taldahs asks them and his family to tell Genova to prepare for the Champion's wedding to Ahmri. He and his wife are teaching Genova how to bake.
Miro
- Miro may refer to the little mouse that keeps Ihzalti company, or one of her brothers, who she named her pet after.
Queen Lyzzerahn
- The previous wielder of the Rosebloom Shield and founder of the Hornet Hive in the Old Forest. She was a legendary hornet queen, and it is said that her overbearing presence made her enemies drop their weapons and worship her like a goddess of battle.
Ser Marius en Errion
- Ser Marius en Errion, a small Wyld Elf with mothrine feelers, is mentioned and appears in the memory stone visions during The Demon of Ice. The husband of Arch-Magister Viona var Este, he was a learned scholar, a war hero, a dragonslayer, and the bearer of Maidenscythe. At the time of the Wraith's appearance on Dracia, he walked with the use of two braces and was ordered to evacuate.
- He is Lusina's ancestor.
Tarah of the North
- Ahmri tells the legend of Tarah of the North and her husband, Chief Ugan the Ironheart, when she tells the Champion about the origin of the Tarahugan River which crosses Harvest Valley. Tarah and her husband were from separate, warring tribes of centaurs in the valley, and when they were chased out, they ran into the goddess Lumia giving birth to the river in a mountain cavern in the south of the valley. Their encounter didn't solve all their problems, but it did bless them, and the river bears their names.
Tiki
- A centauress of the Northern tribes, she is Taldahs's wife and Ahmri's mother. Taldahs describes her as an extremely beautiful snow-white mare who, like her daughter, loves cold weather. She planned to overwinter only with the Harvest Valley Tribe, but stayed with Taldahs long enough to bear Ahmri and then returned to the North within a week of her weaning.
- She is literate and sends regular letters to her husband and daughter. Both Taldahs and Ahmri learned to read and write in order to communicate with her.
Williams
- Williams is mentioned by a group of men during the Alraune rumors explore encounters in Hawkethorne. Presumably a local resident, he had an encounter with The Alraune that left him pretty shaken. He warned the group about a plant-monster in the woods, but some of them doubted him, as he is a known story-teller.
- If the Alraune is defeated, he appears with the group, recovered from his experience.
Yhrea
- Vasha mentions Yhrea during the events of The Ring of Fate if the Diplomacy option is successful. She is a harpy that went missing, and the demon leader wears her face.
