Map of the Frostwood (0.4.24)
Level range 4+
Accessible from
Neutral Hub
  • Yes (Grey area)
  • No (Zones 1, 2, and 3)
  • The Frostwood is the region between the Wayfort and the Winter City. Like much of the Frost Marches it is ancestral land of the Boreal Elves, however following the Godswar the remnants have largely retreated with their city walls. Far from idle, the Frostwood has come to be inhabited by exiled Old Wyld loyalists, Kitsune colonials, the enigmatic Lady Evergreen, as well as demonic invaders.

The approach from the Wayfort is a neutral zone leading to Oxana's Mansion. Heading north, the red zone travels northwest towards the Winter City, the blue zone leads northeast to the Temple of Terrestrial Fire, while the green zone contains the Kurokawa Kitsune Den and the gates to the Winter City. Etheryn has a number of comments about Frostwood landmarks and history as you travel through the area.

    Locations

    Neutral Area

    Oxana's Mansion

You've passed beneath the strange redwood arch on the path, which has wound its way through the woods towards a small clearing. Somebody's built a rather large stone house here, what you'd probably call a manor if it sat on a proper plot of land — but aside from a rather large garden flanking the path up to the solid wood door, the forest seems to end mere feet from the house itself. Branches overhang the arched roof, covered with the same thin gloss of frost and snow as the rest of the forest. The house has actual glass windows along its upper floors, and you can see lights glowing from inside through thick curtains.

Lady Evergreen has erected a barricade to shield Oxana's Mansion from the dangers lurking to the north. You'll need to see her to gain access to the woods beyond. Don't worry, you can trust her.

    Zone 1 (Red)

    Frost Pupper's Cave

You're at the bottom of a rocky, snow covered cliff face. Ice and compacted snow occasionally falls from the cliff and surrounding trees, thumping onto the ground below. There's a cave nearby, it's large entrance casting a visible fire-light glow outward. If your memory serves, it's the cave that belongs to that giantess half-lupine you met before... maybe she's home.

If you take the Frost Pupper for Walkies, she leads you back to her lovely domicile.

    Zone 2 (Blue)

    Lyla's Campfire

It’s not long before you find the source of the light. You see a small campfire burning atop some well ordered stones, making company to a woman who sits just in the outer circle of light and warmth, resting her back against a tree while sharpening a sword. Her brown eyes focus on the weapon as she runs the stone across the blade, freeing a metallic sound that resonates through the camp. She then licks her thumb and rubs it against a tiny dirtied spot, too absorbed by her task to notice you.

Once you've cleared Winter City, Lyla appears at her campfire at night.

    Temple of Terrestrial Fire

Before you is a towering hill, covered in craggy stone and thick moss. The snow that's otherwise ever-present in the Frostwood succeeds from the hill as if by magic, forming an almost perfectly circular line fifty feet from the start of the rise. A number of particularly large and ancient-seeming trees grow roots in the soil on the hillside, though their trunks seem blackened in places as if ravaged by fire.

There is a cave entrance not far from where you stand, clearly man-made. Large oblong stones stand in two rows leading away from the entrance, like primitive arches. They're all covered with strange red symbols, and while you cannot decipher the language, you can clearly see pictograms that can only possibly represent fire repeated several times on each.

North-east of the Wayfort, the Temple of Terrestrial Fire is the home of the Hellhound and potentially Agnimitra, as well as offering a new set for Brienne and an upgrade to your Summon Flame Spirit ability.

    Zone 3 (Green)

    Kurokawa Kitsune Den

This massive tree stands tall above the rest of the Frostwood, towering far above the canopy with its branches stretching outwards in every direction. With roots that are as thick as you are tall, the growth of this thing has been very clearly influenced or directed in some fashion — even the elven druids' wyld trees of old didn't get to these obscenely gargantuan proportions. To be quite honest, it feels more like a living artifact than a mere plant, if you could put such a sensation into words. A circle of empty space rings the tree itself, as if it's holding back the rest of the forest by sheer dint of its presence, a foreign entity in this land.

This gargantuan greenery is the base for Kitsune colonials in the Frost Marches, and is key to freeing Kiyoko and meeting many, many other floofs.

    Winter City Gates

Not long after you broke out of the treeline, the massive spires of a distant city broke through the hazy mist. Now you can see a great ravine plunging down just before the towering stone walls of the city, bridged by an ancient stone archway. The sheer wall of an icy-blue glacier rises up towards the clouds beyond the rift, casting its vast shadow across the plains as you advance.

Until you've cleared Winter City, Gytha is posted here to keep intruders like you from entering the city. Once you've driven off Queen Alissa, Gytha becomes a roaming encounter.
